@The Bassman, which line do you throw? All the husky jerk I’ve used lately suspend on 6 lb mono . Then again I think I use # 10 model. I can watch the line floating on surface for “strikes on the pause” in dead of winter

Today I caught my first 8" hudd fish... after over 100 hours fishing it over the years. I've caught fish on bigger baits but for some reason I could never get them on the traditional slow bottom crawl

Had my boss and his son over today . Primary goal was bream. The 2nd bream Alex hooked , as he had it almost to the dock , a bass clobbered the bream and he hooked the bass right in the corner of the

  • So I went fishing today, and caught a 9#. Scale bounced between 8-15 and 9-2, but let's call it a 9, shall we? NLMB trout eater.   Super slow rolling a 8" weedless on the bottom in about 15

I go against conventional wisdom by using straight braid. This instance was Berkley X-5 8#. I always test my baits at home without line and they want to float. I actually get a lot of satisfaction out of fine tuning them.

Yes it slow float, all my HJ08 do that too. You can see that I add a little bit of copper to front hook to get it suspended right.

I wanna add more spinning rod, especially Zodias series, but afraid it will not get use as much. I only use spinning when Neko Rig or dropshot.

Nothing says you're going to freeze your tail off and wish you had more layers than thick fog, 34 degrees, and a steady breeze...

No interest in big swimbaits but 2.8 keitechs, Neds, and tubes all delivered.

Well.... you forget about the cold when you're actually catching them. Nothing like freezing on the lake and skunking the same day. Sounds like typical winter appetite! Glad you had fun, and thanks for posting to let all us other guys live vicariously through you!

Caught this 21 inch skinny fish off my dock a little while ago on a 7 1/2 black with blue tail culprit worm.

I had walked down and cast right near my boat, hooked the fish and he got off.

Waited a few minutes and cast in the same spot , and got bit again...

That’s probably the skinniest fish Ive ever caught over 20 inches...

Been fishing in San Luis Obispo CA, small ponds at the college. Caught a small one on a white jig fluke tail. And my buddy one on a green pumpkin jig with a plasma ned trailer. Both under 2 pounds. Got the little row boat out on the bigger pond and fished jigs, spinners and Ned rig all day with no bite.  Back to bank fishing the other ponds skunked 4 more times until yesterday, figured I’d try a crank bait for fun and nailed one on the first cast. Stuck around another hour and caught a 3.5# on the same craw shallow diver.  Went back today a little later with no luck, crankbaits, jerk bait and jig. Sorry if the images aren’t the best was having issues with upload size.

Very healthy fish! What water temps are you fishing? Lots of lakes down here are around 48-51.

Ironic, I live local to those ponds and thought for awhile they were off limits? Maybe a good time to fish over holiday break! Glad you got a few, sounds like there were several skunks mixed in! Thanks for the report!

Surface temp continue to hang in that 54-55* range... hopefully they stay there!

Got in my first trip of the year. Had several misses I wish I'd have got in the boat, but I did put a few on the board, including one that really counted.

They typically just tell students to leave, I've never been caught, never heard of anyone getting a ticket. I was a little weary not being a student any more but had no issues. You need to hop a Horse gate for one of the ponds and walk through an unlocked get for another. I heard there are some good ponds behind the men’s colony legal as well but may be a hike or bike in.

It didn't take long to break the 7 lb mark in 2021. Only my second outing of the year and I caught this one. Alarm was set for 6:45 this morning and when I woke up it was 23 degrees. I decided to stay home for a little bit and finally headed out about 9:00. I decided I was going to fish a lake that I haven't fished since last Spring. Got to the lake about 9:45 and I was the only vehicle in the parking lot, I figured that was a bad sign. Got launched and the water was 43 with an air temp of 30. Made a run to a place I thought they might be and threw an Alabama rig and a jerkbait with no luck. Made a move to a different spot and tried the same thing with the same results. Grabbed a Spro Wameku lipless in delta craw and started throwing in over some rocks. Got hung up once and decided to get a little bit deeper. Threw it in about 8 fow and thought I was hung up again, then the line started moving but it wasn't pulling hard at all. I thought I had a turtle or something. She finally came to the top and rolled on her side and my mouth dropped. She made a dive and then she basically gave up. I grabbed the net and scooped her up. I thought she might have been heavier than she was, but she was only 22" long and weighed in at 7 lb 1 oz. Only fish I caught today, but I will take it.
