First post in this topic, its been a solid July for me in my local lake here on Long Island. Been picking apart this lake weekly, it has a history of good fish but I've only caught (and seen caught) sub 1 lb fish regularly. I've been finding the bigger ones after playing with different offerings. Nice that the place is 10 min from my house. These were a week within eachother. Ned rigs crushed it. As well as drop shots spinnerbaits and poppers even RatLRaps.

Today I caught my first 8" hudd fish... after over 100 hours fishing it over the years. I've caught fish on bigger baits but for some reason I could never get them on the traditional slow bottom crawl

Hit the local reservoir this afternoon under some really nice post-frontal conditions. Sure beats the heat and humidity we've had recently. Happy to report a steady bite, landing 33 bass, topped by a 4.58 pound fish that crushed a deep crankbait.

33 in an afternoon? Jesus that's more than I've caught so far this month. I suck!

Launched at 2:00 PM and was back at the ramp by 6:30 PM, and this is typically a somewhat stingy body of water. Only 8 were “keepers,” but that’s pretty good for July on most of our reservoirs. Looking forward to the next trip out, hopefully later this week.

This 6 lb toad picked up a weightless  fluke off the bottom and ran with it.

I've only had the opportunity to fish alot for 2 weeks this year, but every bass I've caught with the exception of 3 pond dinks and a 5.5ish pounder that I caught as bycatch while catfishing has been on a Ned Rig.

Heh, You should read Ned Kehde's In-Fisherman article on @Team9nine from 2011:

https://www.in-fisherman.com/editorial/a-summary-of-bass-fishing-in-central-indiana-in-2011-from-the-perspective-of-brian-waldman/156561

"His e-mail also included a statistical summation of his entire year, which noted that he fished for bass 82 times and for a total of 260 hours. The average length of each trip was three hours, 10 minutes. He caught 2,305 bass, which is an average 8.86 bass per hour or one bass every six minutes and 46 seconds."

The hot dry year has made for one of the best Topwater seasons of my entire life!

Girlfriend has only been bass fishing 3 times ever and already has a PB of 3 pounds. Probably gonna start whooping on me soon

I’d take that for action. Except...there’s really no “muck” to throw a frog into. This pond gets duckweed and algae, but not bad. No lily pads, no big weed beds that extend out feet from shore. It’s really pretty clear. Most of the action has always been casting under or near tree limbs that overhang the water, or parallel to the bank about 10’-12’ out. It was very productive all last year except for most of September, and all this year until mid-May. I caught my 5+ lb bass (5.12 lbs) in March and the last one over 3 lbs (3.64 lbs) on May 4, and since then it’s been nothing but dinks up to 2 lbs.

Sounds like a fantastic place to throw a whopper plopper or a buzzbait, or if they want something a bit more subtle a popper or walking bait.

Got out for a total of 8 hours today.  Started at 1 place fished 7-11 got 3 but wasnt feeling it so i packed up and headed back to the place that was good to me last week. Fished there until 3 catching 6 more with 2 good ones weighing 3-10 and 5-2 punching double wide beaver.

It comes and goes. One or 2 hot days and its shut down for a week. It was pretty sketchy recently.

My house was hosting the show choir seniors meeting last night; 20 boys and girls plus the directors.  It was made clear that I needed to make myself scarce.  It was a bit rainy off and on (no lightning) so I figured fishing was a better use of my time than hiding in my bedroom.  The show choir director's husband agreed so, off we went.  We got in a couple of hours and only caught 5 between us.  This was the last, and best, fish of the night.

Sadly, it was so dark by this time, I could not see the line movement and never felt him so he ended up taking the boat ride home to his new resting place in my freezer.  His passing was odd though.  Despite being hooked deep, i was able to successfully extract the hook without bloodshed or obvious damage to his gills.  But, by the time I put him back into the water, he was a floater.  I didn't think I kept him out too long but maybe I did, which begs the question, how long is too long for a fish to be out of the water?

Best rule of thumb I've seen is how long can you hold your breath for?

Not as long as a fish . I’ve tried and tried, I really want to retrieve all the lures off my dock stuck in an underwater tree but I can’t stay down 30 seconds . I have seen Bass kept out of the water for a minute or two on dozens of occasions and be unaffected. I’m guessing the deep hook is what killed the floater mentioned above. I’ve seen deep hooked fish float without bleeding many times

Got out for a hour and a half this morning, headed to my normal pond to see if it was still flooded really bad still. They were not blowing up on the surface like normal this morning. The good news is that the water level is still high but it’s going down. Water was colder than I thought it would be. I caught 4 fish on a bone revolver. First one came off when I was wading towards the bank. I got the second and third one landed and the fourth one came off on the fight in my fault hook set was not quite right. Nothing big but still a fish is a fish, doesn’t help that my standards are that a fish has to be over 18 inches before I consider it decent.

A quick fishing session on my rain swollen local river this morning before work. I thought it was going to be a miserable trip as all I caught in the first hour was 2 Sunfish.

I tried my luck at the top of the Dam and glad I did. Caught my biggest Bass of the year. A beautiful Largemouth over four and a quarter pounds on a wacky rigged GYCB 4” green pumpkin black flake Senko.spacer.pngspacer.pngspacer.png

Alright!

Congrats on the BBOTY (Biggest Bass of the Year) ?

PB today. Absolute unit for my area. 1/16 ned rig was the only thing they wanted. Bent out my hook. Lost her a few weeks ago at the boat when she broke me off. Not this time. Same conditions, place, time of day, same exact log. Mission accomplished.
