Latest Tackle Purchase Thread (Bait Monkey Victim Support Group)

Featured Replies

LOL!!  I sure did!  It was more like a "chuuuuuhhh-Chiiinnnng"...  3 of the lures I had to go back to the store and ask again for the 75% off due to them charging the full price..  Those 9 lures costed me $44 and change. tax included.

Well I’m on a orange color bait kick now. I ordered every spike it orange color they offered in non scented and garlic scented they had. Even some orange colored paint.

After reading here and watching the you you tube videos I’m hooked on trying the whooper ploppers too. I ordered different sizes and colors to try.

The Monkey got me today.  I drove to the Bass Pro in Hookset, NH, to pick up a new 7' M/F Veritas to replace the one that's at the bottom of Aaron Reservoir AND its 2.0 replacement that broke on the first trip out (if you read reviews on the 7' M/F 2.0, there are a number that broke near the tip - I got one too).  For some reason, the 7' M/F Veritas feels great in my hands and casts great with any reel I've put on it.  Hopefully the newest generation Veritas does too.

Also picked up a couple odds and ends.  Nothing exciting though.

Anyhoo, I missed a bid for a *** baitcasting reel I really like and browsed around and found this:

I make a good living, but I just couldn't bring myself to pay more than my most expensive rods or reels for ONE bait....

I'd love to hear from anyone who bought a bait this expensive and caught fish with it...

Cheers -

Oh yeah, sadly, I saw ice on shallow waters along 93N on my way up to NH today...

Wouldn't matter how much money I had and how well that bait enticed bass to bite, $299 is ridiculously too much to pay for one bait. I would buy 3 $100 Lew's baitcaster combos instead. I mean really you pay that much money for a bait the bass better just start jumping in your boat or on the bank where you're fixing to fish before you even cast. It should be that effective.

That's not even that expensive in the swimbait world. Fishing is about enjoyment, and some guys enjoy fishing big baits that are very finely crafted. It's more money than I'm willing to spend on one, but I understand guys that do it.

I doubt everyone that would scoff at someone fishing a $300 bait is pulling their beat up johnboat to the lake behind an old farm truck to cast their Creme Scoundrel on their Zebco 33. Same thing to me. I don't "need" my truck and bass boat, but I enjoy them so I spent my money on them.

That's the cheap one the mother is over 400.  You should look at the video I posted on swimbaits.  Hand crafted baits are very labor intensive.  Deps sells there plastic 250 for a lot of money and it takes no craftsmanship.

I just got my order of Dobyns D-Blades from TW.  They look awesome.  They get a test run tomorrow.

Very nice order.

My birthday was Monday the 13th and my girlfriend bought me these. A Booyah Pad Crasher in old smoky color and a white Arkie jig that has a bait keeper on it. Can't wait to try them and plenty of my other baits/lures out in the morning on Toledo Bend!

Wow this thread has slowed down especially considering all the black friday deals.

I had to put together a small TW order. Got some hair jigs and Iovino jig trailers (it's cold up here lol), a couple stanley spinnerbaits to try, replaced some of the tungsten weights I lost this year, and got some yamamoto grubs and a couple swimjigs.

I also hopped on Ebay and picked up some Winter reading material. In-Fisherman's Critical Concepts 1, 2 and 3, In Pursuit of Giant Bass by Bill Murphy, and the classic Spoonplugging by Buck Perry.

Picked up a swim bait and a topwater that looked ok while out shopping Friday. Was nowhere near a shop that would have had big sales which was probably a good thing.

Curious if the smaller number of posts has to do with the file size limit on photos? I use an app, but definately post less pictures because it can be a pain.

Well, my binge was all online, so it will be a week before it all arrives.

I also picked up the Critical Concepts 1, 2 and 3 books.  I have enjoyed a lot of the stuff on their site, so wanted to check the books out.

God I’m $642.90 poorer thanks to tackle wharehouse. This is a bad addiction.  At least crack dealers don’t take credit cards. Worst addiction ever.

You're just not in the right area brotha....   They take cards now a days! ?

@Bluebasser86 That's a sick looking Phoney man.

Finally got my baits in from Phil 2 custom painted lunker punkers 3145ulw.jpg

I went a little nuts on BF, but I figured if I was going to get into swimbaits/bigbaits, then it would be the day to do it.

I think this little collection should get me started.  I do wish I had gone for the larger Mattlures gills, but being able to fish the U2 gills on a "normal" rod will come in handy I suspect.  I also picked up a rod, a MB Hygua 72H, but annoyingly it didn't make it home from the UPS store with my wife, so I am here posting instead of being out fishing.

I also picked up a spinning reel for my "wife and friends" rod, a M/XF custom.  It was pretty tip heavy with the 2500 Ci4+ I had on it, so I went for a Daiwa BG 2000 as it seemed like the perfect weight to balance it out.  I was right and it's perfect now, with the balance point right at the front of the spool. I have only cast it around the yard so far, but it feels super smooth and sturdy.

Had no idea Keitech made a tube. Have you used them before?

Got some new jig trailers.  Bought an Ugly stick spinning rod.  Some braid.  Mostly replacing lost and broken.  But....

really trying not to pick up another rod but i found a 7'11" vertias winch heavy for $66

Amazon is having their deal of the day on some Penn reel/rod combos.  I ended up getting the Penn Battle II reel/rod combo 2000 & 6'6 ML for my son for $70.

Not a purchase per say, but I was out at a little pond yesterday and found this guy floating on a leaf mat right up on the bank;

jrWUQeSl.jpg

I lost it about a month ago as I got cocky and threw it too close to cover on too light of line.  I know it's the same one as the front hook has a single dull point that I was going to touch up after "one more cast", that being the one I lost it on.

Saved yourself $20!
