A while back I thought I saw the rarest of all creatures an honest politician.  Alas, I was mistaken.  

 

Maybe Big Bill can help me in my quest.

I believe that an honest politician's current status is "extinct".

Won a trip to Montana, extremely beautiful out there.  Cruising around the mountains in our H2 hummers provided for us. It was about sun down and we were out spotting pronghorn and mule deer.  Well on our way back we could see a smaller dark figure.  As we got closer our trail guide told us it was wolverine.  I hadn't ever even heard of them until now. Guide said they were never around that area.  Extremely aggressive animal you 5didn't want to mess with. 

 

Here in mid Illinois the cat population has really gone up in the past 5 years.  Cruising country roads around 10 at night trying to spot deer. Out of nowhere I have a bobcat running side by side of my truck. I was running 45mph and I swear he kept right up with me.  Mountain lions are popping up he as well.  They just put a season on them here. 

 

Bald Eagles are showing up more and more here.  Spotted 3 last year.  One being a very ugly baby eagle.  Saw it and its mother pick up out of a tree and fly off into the sunset.  No joke. ..was very neat to see. 

Something left this behind recently.I'm assuming a coyote.

While at work, I've seen bobcats, mountain lions, and even a badger (which I was also surprised they have 'em in Cali), but a roadrunner is the most rare and unusual sighting that I've experienced. We were driving up Mines Rd, which is a windy back road connecting the city of Livermore's wine district to San Jose, when I noticed something running along the right edge of the road. 

 

At first I thought it was a hen pheasant as we approached it due to it's coloring. But the bird was taller and the tail feathers were shorter. As our car pulled up alongside the bird, I was surprised to see the bird was a roadrunner! And just like the cartoon, he just kept running down the road as his idea of having fun as we drove past.

 

I never saw a live roadrunner before, and I haven't seen one since that day....

I guess a lot of it depends on where you live. I've never seen a mountain lion in the wild but I've seen so many roadrunners I get tired of looking at them.

i had a close encounter with a Bald Eagle and got it on footage.  Nothing spectacular, but kinda cool.

I took this pic about 10 min ago of a running  (go figure) roadrunner. That's why it's blurry. Them dudes are as fast as they're advertised! 

I've never seen anything cool really, back in Texas we'd occasionally see some pretty big gators. Here in Missouri there's always a few meth heads roaming about but certainly not rare

Caught these two sealions napping and sunning themselves as I went into a marina to fish some docks. I'm guessing they had a bass breakfast because I didn't even get bit. They're not a rare sighting on the Delta, but thought some of you might appreciate the photo. This was taken 15 minutes north of Stockton off the main channel.

Caught this fox 2 night's ago on my trail camera behind my house. Not real rare but still neat!

Wish I could trade that fox for a bunch of our Delta sea lions Brad.  Did I mention they're easier to keep out of the hen house!

Thats the crazy part is I have chickens about 100-150 yards from where that pic was taken but it hasn't messed with them yet. My hen house is pretty secure but if he really tried he could probably get in. I plan to trap it next winter....I figure it's just a matter of time till the chickens start disappearing. 

Yes sir, fox were always after my chickens when I lived in KY!

 

They were easier to keep out than the skunks though.

I've only seen one of the pictures and video myself and I can't say for sure, so I don't, but what it showed had a long trail and sure didn't look like a dog.  DNR said probably not but still took a report.  Conversation was much more interested, out looking for tracks and scat, given several reports within 4 miles.  

I have caught 9 albino raccoons, not exactly sure but that may disqualify them from being rare. All in Knox county

Watched a Cougar run through my back yard this spring;  very happy my Border Collie was inside at the time, she would have taken up chase for sure.  Where I live in North Central Arkansas there are more deer than rabbits or squirrels;  we probably have more Cougars than is believed.

I have a cougar that hangs out at my house. A female, I see her every morning, she disappears for 8-10 hrs during the days, and reappears in the evening. For the most part, she’s friendly. 😎
