@RoLo, there was a hotdog joint in NJ, off route 22, if I recall

my youth correctly - I *think* it was Jimmy's, but it was not a

stand, rather an actual place to eat. Hot dogs were the specialty

and they were to die for. It was a treat for this young lad in

those days.

 

We lived in Plainfield at the time, if that's any help, if you even

know the one I'm speaking of. I wish I could recall!! Was circa

1980.

 

I can't say I remember 'Jimmy's', but I do remember "Jimmy Buffs" in Kenilworth,

the originator of the Italian Hot Dog  <Out-Of-Sight!!>

Deep-fried potatoes, onions and peppers, stuffed into pizza bread

on top a deep-fried hot dog and Italian sausage.

 

My fondest memories on Route 22 were the carhops:

the "Garden of Eatin" Carhop (later the Bigtop) and the "Adventure Carhop".

Scarcely a night went by that I wasn't drag racing the Wild Canary on Rt 22.

it brought some recall back. As a kid, I don't remember 

the look of the place, the location on his site doesn't

bring back memory, but the name sure does.

 

And Kenilworth is off 22 not far from Plainfield. So it 

is most likely the place!!

Jimmy Buffs was one door off the Boulevard, next door to the Treasure Trove.

As it happened, the Treasure Trove is where Lois & I bought our first furniture (two broke kids).

I understand that later there were 3 Jimmy Buffs, but we never patronized any other.

Great memories! The more I think about it, the more 100%

certain I am that it was Jimmy Buffs. That name totally

brings back the memory of sinking my teeth into a juicy hot

dog the likes of which I never had.

 

Although hot dogs at Yankee stadium were pretty good then, 

too  But not as good as JBs. Boy, memories flooding in.

The polish dog at Costco's is what I always get.  Wife likes the hot dog.  There's also a hot dog stand in front of the local Home Depot.  They don't do a bad job either!

Hot dogs?  It's obvious that most of you don't live in an area with a large Portuguese population.

 

Try these, and you'll use your former favorites for catfish bait.  Heck, these dogs would probably out fish the good ol' American hot dog.

 

 

Cook to your preference eat 'em as they are, or like me, you may add just a bit of mustard.  It will be love at first bite.

When I make hot dogs at home I grill them 90% of the time.

 

When I am in Manhattan nothing beats a boiled dirty water dog from a hot dog cart.

Costco dogs are with out a doubt good eats, and for the price you can't go wrong. Of course around the Bay Area for hot dogs, it's either Casper's or Kasper's for hot dogs joints. Two family members who didn't quite get along as the story goes, that Philadelphia cheese steak aficionados in the city of brotherly love can appreciate ...

Crickets Drive in,  in Stratford, ct. they closed over a decade ago but the new one is about to open up soon. Near we're the old place was near the airport.

when i I was a kid working all day back filling foundations by hand with no lunch for supper I ate four foot long hotdogs. My old man would cry. I said you work me like two people I eat like two people. Lmas. The kids today don't know what real work is.

The hotdog with the skin is the best. At home cooked over a charcoal/ mixed hardwood fire. You have to have that wood flavor.

Not on purpose. I catch the infrequent one by accident.  Biggest is just under seven pounds.  The big ones are way up river from where I live.   Smallmouth have worked their way down river over the last 20 years.  Having all the dams impacts the fishing.  Oregon recently classed all warm water species on the Columbia as trash fish.  No limits, size or number.  Stupid is as stupid does.  Slimers rule the great Pacific Northwest.

 

By the way.....I just recalled my wife slipped a hotdog under my chili once when I wasn't looking.  I almost divorced her for that.

In my part of the country, it's all about Koegel's viennas.

Custom made "Mott Dogs" made by a small processor in the Ozarks and sold to a friend of mine that raises cattle.  By far, the best hot dog I've ever had.  Nothing commercially available even comes close.  Impossible to get and I'm almost glad of that because I would be dead in a year if I could get more than a lb or so every summer.
