Your favorite old baitcaster?

Featured Replies

If you could go back in time and buy a new copy of an old baitcaster, which one would it be?

Love the TDZ 105H.  Never held one, but the Megabass TD ito would also be at the top of my list.  Maybe one of the TDZs with the R+ spool?

Not old but does the Daiwa SV103 zillion clone count? Missed the train on that one! Otherwise, probably a Core 50 or 100mgfv, as well.

The Ryobi V Mag 4 that I learned on.

A Shimano black Bantam Mag. I, bet I cast a million miles on that thing until it fell apart!

Shimano Bantam Mags - loved those reels.  I have 5 still.

Don’t do it. Unless you are a collector and enjoy the novelty of obsolescence, get something new.

Tough call.  I started using baitcasters as an adult in 2014.  I'd have to say my Shimano Core 50 is my favorite 'old' reel.

A Core 101 or especially a Calais 201.

I still have the Core and its just as good as the day I got it.  I would love to have another new in the box.

I sold the Calais and I always regretted it.  Smoothest reel ever.

After much thought, I'm going to say my old Shimano 301 E Curado.

A team daiwa x.  It was the first higher end reel I ever bought and it went through hell.  I replaced the worm gear once and pinion a few more times.  I had this thing for almost 15 years and someone stole it last year.  I loved that reel...

Chronarch SF...Used one of my buddie's slinging a buzzbait into flooded cover for a day...It was shocking how "free" that beat up old reel was to me. Casting was hard to describe,  baits just kindve kept going just a bit more than they shouldve for the effort put forth. All while being very manageable.
