Expert? Never claimed I was...

But, I just went and grabbed a T-wing reel and put the line under the bar.

You see that line angle? I don't even have this reel fully spooled, it would be worse if it was.

Now the real issue...

You see how the line is going through the groove? That is with the thumb bar pressed down (casting). The entire purpose of the T-wing is that when casting the line is allowed to flow freely through the larger wing portion of the line guide. With the line under the bar, like I mentioned earlier, it pins the line into the groove and basically turns the T-wing into a normal line guide, defeating it's entire purpose.

With the line OVER the bar...twingover.thumb.jpg.574fe1c4dc4728c0c4c4a52b72dccb4a.jpg

See how the line has a straight, completely unhindered path from the spool through the T-wing  to the first guide and allowed to pass through the wing portion of the T-wing? That's the intent of the design when casting. When the T-wing flips back down when you reengage the spool to reel again...the line is forced into the smaller groove so that it can lay the line more evenly back onto the spool....like so:

  • Definitely cast further with it over and not under. It's pretty clear in this picture. If you fully understand the purpose of the T-Wing then you'll realize it goes over.

See above

And yes, you can tell a difference immediately I did it for fun because of this thread to see what I was missing out on, turns out I was missing out on quite a bit of reduced distance.

Consistent with my casting as well.

Just use a spinning reel and you won’t have to agonize over it...?

I’m supposed to feed my line OVER the stabilizer bar on my Tat SV TW... right??

I was so embarrassed to ask this. I feel a little better now knowing that there is more confusion out there. I’m sold though. It has to be fed over. I wish my Steez CT SV picture was a little better. That reel emphasizes the importance of going over. Looking at a Tatula SV TWS on its own, I can see  where there would be confusion.

I'm sure that's a great reel, but I think I'll stick with Shimano ?

And that's the pic that threw me, it looks to me like the line dog legs down to the Twing, In Mass Yaks pic it's obvious he's right.. I wish it would be the last time I was wrong but it's not gonna happen... Nothing personal

Lol here we go!

5 pages before the lock. Taking bets, who's got the over/under?

Instant classic! Make it a sticky.

I didn't want to be that guy, but someone was bound to do it.  All in good fun!

Under for sure.

No j/k I went out in the garage and looked at the last and only Daiwa T-wing reel I own and sure enough, over.

All of the extra casting distance of the t wing design gets eaten up by the line scraping that bar. Dumb design if you ask me....

Silliness. Is the line also "scraping" the rod's guides?

What a silly thread. It goes over on Mondays, Tuesday's and Fridays only but if it's raining or below 63 degrees then it certainly goes under. It's all in the owners manual.

Definitely. That's why I use rods without guides. You can save a lot of money by just using sticks you find on the bank.

I checked my Daiwas with T-Wings and they are all spooled OVER.

Why doesn't one of the Diawa fanboys call them and ask ?As  Lews guy I say over.
