I'm generally a fan of the single barrel Jack Daniel offerings, and this has been dropping around my area so I picked it up. The last time JD dropped a heritage release, was their 2019 special release and it was very good, and this is supposed to be a regular shelf offering going forward. Lots of caramel and marshmallow on the nose, very sweet caramelized brown sugar on the palate. The proof is just right, and is more viscous than I would expect at 100prf. For $70 SRP, it's a tad on the higher side considering the JD barrel proof is $65, but the toasting process is an extra step so I guess like many other toasted products out there, they charged a premium for it. It would be a killer shelf product if it were $50, but I'd probably buy it again for $70.

Big fan of Oktoberfests and Scotch Ales.  I'm already looking at local stores online for this.  Thanks for the tip.

I picked up a 12 pack of these guys yesterday and have enjoyed a couple in between enjoying handing out Trick-or-Treats 😃IMG_5348.jpeg.ba4af5072f8cc8a78e6ebe55a8a80164.jpeg

@Jigfishn10 I knocked back quite a few of those years ago when I went through my German Beer phase. I really enjoyed the dark beer Beck’s produced along with St Pauli girl, but the best German beer I’ve ever had was from my brother who was stationed in Germany (Air Force) for my 18th birthday when he sent a 6 pack each of Lowenbrau regular and dark. Another one no longer produced that was good was the original Michelob dark. Dang now I’m getting thirsty 😆

@Eric 26, you must be my brother from a different mother. :)

I was a huge Lowenbrau fan for 1. Would rather have Becks Dark over the one I’m currently having for 2. And I say bring back the Michelob  Dark!

Honestly, I really like a lot of the German dark beers and ales. Not a fan of IPAs

Years ago, the original Pabts Brewery made a pretty poor beer...but every fall they released a Pabts Octorberfest beer that was fantastic. The current owners of Pabts could do well to do that again (with the original formula).

I agree and I’ll have to take your word for it but I don’t recall that. The 2 beers I ever saw at my house growing up was either Budweiser or Schlitz. But I do think that there should be more Octoberfest type beers this time of year.

@Kirtley Howe Not too many years ago Old Style made an Oktoberfest beer available only in cans as I recall and it was by far the best Oktoberfest beer I ever tried in my humble opinion 🍻

@Jigfishn10 Speaking of Oktoberfest beers I picked up a 12 pack of these yesterday and as a bonus the 12 pack was 50% off. IMG_5368.jpeg.80ce04078d954c99fd0551175bf9d90b.jpeg

Well, you are partly right, and so am I. They did not release a beer called Octoberfest....they did make a beer in the  Andeker  style that they called Pabts Andeker that was only released in the fall and was very very similar to an Octoberfest. My bad for calling it an Octoberfest. It was available in the 60s, 70s, and early 80s. After Pabts was absorbed by some conglomerate or other, they did release an Octorberfest beer in 2016. I have never tried that one.

I’d show you what I was drinking tonight but I’m sure you members who’ve been here a while know and for the new members, I’m sorry but they’re all gone! 😂

A bourbon ginger with my wife’s Halloween eyeball ice cubes.

Ooooo! That looks like a good one! You may be on to something there. I may have to scratch that itch today.

And as far as St Pauli girl goes, “you never forget your first girl” :)

After a hard day of fishing plus the fact I haven’t treated myself to a drink in a couple of weeks, I poured a very stiff Jack&Coke and when I took my first sip, I discovered the coke was flat right out of the single serve plastic bottle. 😡 I refused to waste that much Jack and muscled through it. 🤢

  • Super User

Oh man.  A coke and <insert alcohol> with flat coke is just a no no for me.  I rarely drink a coke and something but it has to be super fizzy.

I’m sipping on some light mezcal (Siempre valee I think) with a Perdomo petit corona while my wife takes a nap and before we go out for dinner.

I refused to waste that much Jack and muscled through it. 🤢

The struggle is real :bravo-009:

At first I thought it might be due to the fact that I occasionally like my J&C strength the hue of light iced tea but after my first sip it was obvious the coke was as flat as a junkyard 56 Buick tire.  😂
