Way back when in the 70s when I was in the Army, we had a Sp4 who was Filipino who used (used) to bring balut in every now and then. We also had an SFC who was one of “those guys” with the “Your mama doesn’t work here-clean it up!” and similar signs. One day he walked over to the Specialist and told him if he ever ate balut again in the break area, they’d never find the body. I never saw him bring it in again. That stuff is nas-tay!

same here.   Only time I bring something more substantial is when I know I need more calories because I will be doing a lot of paddling that day.  

Big breakfast like chili and eggs, maybe a bar or some trail mix on the water, big dinner when I get home.

 

The exception is mid-summer, stopping ang getting some shade for 20 minutes, or if I need to force myself to slow down on a big worm, I'll post up in a good spot and eat between drags. Biggest fish this summer was a lunch bite, but that's another story altogether. Punch line is don't ever be barefoot (oh look at me all relaxed and comfy) on a boat with treble hooks floating about when you might need to run to the other end of the boat to control a fish.

They do that in Apra Harbor (Guam) as well, with Jacks up to around 50#.

And they tell you to be very careful regarding your fingers! The fish are protected, and habituated to divers, and man, they are fast!

The Texas substitute for beef jerky is smoked, dried sausage.  The best is venison (only feral axis deer can be sold), this is from Dzuik's meat market in Castroville and, IMO, the best offered anywhere in the hill country.  

This stuff's as hard as a rock - cut a piece with a sharp knife and throw it in your pocket.  You have to take tiny bites and chew it a long time.

   When I was little, Dad made sausage. He hung it above the wood stove to dry. My older brother used to joke, "If you can't drive a nail with it, it's not dry yet."

Only water(4 - 6 bottles) while fishing. I survive the day by starting with two giant steak biscuits, 30 oz of coffee and a bottle of water. A Sprite for the drive home.  When I arrive home I'll eat something like this and rest my eyes in my recliner. Just have to learn to control your metabolism with your mind.?

One thing I love to eat while fishing is sour patch kids. Since it’s usually hot and I am constantly casting, it works like Gatorade. Otherwise I probably go for premier protein shakes from Costco. But beef jerky and things like spicy slim Jim’s are also fishing favorites for me.

I just boat up to a restaurant and grab what sounds good.  Can get to more than 30 so there are plenty of choices.  When not on my home lake I regularly pack the camp stove and a cooler full of goodies.  If the fishing is too good to stop then at least when I'm done I can eat a real meal right away.

Currently my quick fishing day out on the water snack. Take a couple or three outta the freezer and throw them into the cooler with the drinks. They seem to thaw buy the time I feel like having a snack, and can be scarfed in three or four bites. 
 

* yeah I know I can make a PB&J sandwich for a lot less, but I’d have to make em. These are much more convenient IMHO...

Haha. I grew up drinking "Genastos" I used to stop every day after work and pickup a 12 pack, throw it on the tank of my Harley and ride to the Niagara river and drink with friends.  I especially like that Christmas treat... Bock beer.

That part of the river is basically unfishable. I've seen carp hanging around there. Below lower falls to the lake is good, as is well upstream. Downtown is a toilet.

Ha- I had friends growing up that lived self sufficient. One of them had cattle, a big garden, A huge chicken coop, 2 fish ponds, and they killed several deer a year.

They were some healthy folks!

Another  one got whatever he shot , caught or trapped. I mean anything from bears to gator .One time he shot and ate a woodpecker and said it was tough . ?

Hahahahha. My buddy always says things are “tougher than woodpecker lips” 

When you went in his house he had nearly every kind of florida wildlife on his wall. Gator hide, and claws,  rattlesnake skin, mounted bobcat, Big bass, deer antlers everywhere , turkey mounts. No rare florida panthers though, thank God!
