Baits that intrigue you?

So some baits just seem to resonate with people. You find yourself drawn to them...even if they aren't your favorite to fish your still pulled to them. Maybe they don't quite click with you so you find yourself pondering how does this work or what am I doing wrong. Or maybe there is some sort of mystique there you can't put your finger on.

For me two baits really intrigue me. Can't really say why but for some reason these are the 2 I'm obsessed with. Neither is my favorite bait...in fact they aren't even top 3..yet I'm always trying to figure out the subtleties and nuances.

Bait 1 are crankbaits. They are unique in that they are made in so many styles, colors, actions, depth ranges, applications and even materials. Because of this they are effective in cold cold water, the hottest water of the year...and of course everything in between. They are also one of few moving baits that are made to be fished 2 inches to 30ft deep.

Bait 2 is the Texas rigged worm in its endless iterations. Like the crankbait endless styles, sizes and colors but that is not what interests me. My interests lie in trying to unlock the mastery of this rig. For all purposes the worm is one of the easiest things to fish. But I believe there is more going on. Otherwise why would other pros...many very accomplished worm fishermen in there own right...tout Larry Nixon as the best worm guy ever to walk the earth? Don't know but I intend to do my homework and find out.

So now I leave it up to you all ...what baits or techniques intrigue you?

I can't really say that I'm intrigued by any bass baits. Everything we fish with is just a slight variation of something that was invented years ago.                                                      If I thought something was really new, I might be intrigued.

I love tinkering with buzzbaits- they resemble nothing natural, sound like nothing natural, but catch quality fish. I am all about the analytical and finesse side of bass fishing- the pure instinct reaction bite is so different and fascinating!

Also- I got a chance to meet Larry at a classic a few years back. He is a class act!

Megabass hard baits in general with their incredible paint jobs but, more specifically, the X-Pod with its adjustable lip.  ?

I bought a couple of X-Pods and X-Pod Jrs.  I think I fished one of the big ones for an hour or so one day and I don't know if I ever fished any of them again.  (And no, I didn't catch anything.)

I still enjoy foundling/ogling them...  I guess I better get them on the water and try to catch something with them!

I’m a lure buying junkie, they all interest me but if I had to pick what intrigues me the most then it is older lures, wood baits, balsa Minnow stickbaits, jerkbaits, lures that look like real living creatures such as grasshoppers, frogs, crayfish, bats, rats, mice, spiders etc all my life I buy lure after lure with propellers on them. I really can’t narrow it down even the soft plastics, I love and buy every version of helgramites  I can find. Then all the colors and the neat names and this and that and it never ends! Never!!! So many lures, so little money…

Jerkbaits. Not only do they come in all kinds of cool colors and styles, but they are killer fish catchers.

Plain and simple...jigs.

I have an entire Plano box dedicated to jigs. Not going to lie...I'm not great with jigs.

Fished them a lot when I lived in Missouri. Even caught a Musky on a jig-n-craw back in the 1990's...fishing from my belly-boat!  I will never forget pitching that jig next to a tree trunk...watching my braid fall...and fall...and fall...(it was 15-16feet deep right there).

Jig reached the bottom...then the line started to move...did not feel a bite.

I said, "Well, hello there Mr. Bass...." and set the hook.

Swore I set the hook in to a branch...then it started to move...boy, was I surprised to see that big old toothy predator rise from the deep.

Back to jigs...I don't fish them much here in Nebraska...too mossy and weedy.

Out of the newest baits. The Jabber Jaw and Bellow Gills. Are two interesting baits I might end up trying.

I bought an old tackle box fill with a lot of older lures. One of the Crankbaits looks like a whistle.

Soft plastics, I have a couple hundred bags and love the different colors, profiles, smells, and the endless ways to rig them. It’s also a lot easier for me to go to the store and buy a new $4 bag of plastics than it is the buy the 14$ hard bait I want that will likely get stuck on a log or a rock.

When I was little all bass lures intrigued me . The sporting goods store was my favorite place to go .I was especially intrigued by plugs . My first two lures I bought was a Mirrolure-jointed catfish lure . I never seen another one in my life .Wish I still had it . Then I bought a Storm Thin-Fin .I didnt even have a good place to use them . I tried them in the Mississippi but never caught a fish on them . It wasnt until I turned 16 and started driving that I found some places to catch bass .

Same here...  one of, if not my first, hard baits was a small Mirro-Lure jointed minnow (white with a red head).  I still have my Thin-Fin.

Our little summer store at the lake sold Heddon lures and I eventually bought the River Runt, Sonic, Tiny Torpedo, Sonar, Crazy Crawler and Tadpolly.  Rapala minnows were the priciest.  I had a couple of floaters, jointed floaters and count-downs.   I think I washed my dad's car twice a week to get money for the Arbogast Hula Popper, Jitterbug and Mudbug, too.

I'm still a sucker for plugs....

Soft plastics.  The first plastic worm I ever saw was a Creme Scoundrel.  We fished them weightless because the Texas rig had not been invented.  When Tom Mann created the Jelly worm, it created a sensation.  The list of worm manufacturers that you don't hear about today is lengthy.  Many of them were regional in popularity.   Producto, Pace, Culprit, JW and Fleck all had their day.  Some are still available.  I knew Charlie Infinger when he was experimenting with making his own worms. He's gone now.  The company he founded, Charlie's Worms, is still around.  I use a lot of Gambler products. Russ Bringger was a great fisherman.  I learned about Zoom worms from a bank fisherman.  When I was loading my boat, I saw a guy fishing on the bank catch a nice bass.  He showed me a Zoom worm with salt in the bag.  I bought a bag and never looked back.  Best plastic worm ever created.

At one time, I had two giant garbage cans full of plastic baits.  As I went through the cans, each one brought back a memory.  I managed to cull my collection down to one cardboard box.  Each bait in that box is a stone cold bass killer.

A worm is my goto but I'm a plastics freak!

I throw em all, worms, creatures, Liz-zards, craw worms, structure bugs, everything

Give me a piece of plastic, a straight shank hook, a bullet weight, & I'm happy, happy, happy!

I just did the same thing . I filled two large  sacks full of soft plastics . My cousin works on the garbage truck and when they stopped I gave them to him . He wont have to buy any for a long time .

Flukes. There are times when I know I could catch more on a tube or jig, but weightless flukes are just so fun to fish.

I love Jigs/Bladed jigs and the endless combinations of skirts, heads, and trailers.  I really only need 2 to fish but I keep buying them because I just like messing around with jigs....

Do I even gotta with this one?  I may have mentioned a time or 2 on here that I like throwing a frog a little.

Spinnerbaits. At first glance it's like...why would a bass eat that...it's got to be the most unrealistic lure there is. But they're my favorite and the lure I have the most confidence in 90% of the time.

Jerkbaits especially the Megabass Vision 110's..... I seem to be drawn to them.  Not sure why but you only really need to fish with about 4 colors to cover most everything.  I seem to buy one or two every year and now I have two 3700 boxes full.
