This post has probably been up before but I'll try again cause got into buzzbait fishing this year and loved it.Question is do you take skirts off,use frogs,or paddletails.What is everybody's favorite brand .Thanks 

I like the Picasso rusty squealer I believe it is called.  I use it both ways, but I throw them mostly with the skirt.  Ohio Pro is also one of my favorite brands

I make my own and have come to prefer a paddletail over a skirt . The paddletail adds a little extra weight . With a skirt I use a 1/2 ounce lure but with a paddletail a 3/8th ounce . It  matches my 7' mh buzzbait rod  better so it cast more precisely .

I've tried a couple soft body frogs on a couple buzzbaits, they are hit & miss on the action/rigging on a buzzbaits.

I’m a 3/8 oz. Cavitron guy - but with the “Clacker.” I usually take the skirt off and use a Zoom Z Craw “Jr” which at 3.5 inches is just the perfect length.  Black buzzer, Black-Flash Z Craw Jr.

I've had good success with the Googan Hummer in black without a trailer or trailor hook. Caught my personal best largemouth weighing 6.23 pounds and a bunch of other quality fish on last summer.  

I’d like to preface this that I only starting seriously throwing buzzbaits this past summer. Z craw jr worked pretty good but a little small and at moderate speeds would tilt the buzzbait slightly but nothing bad. Tried a magnum ultravibe craw, way too much tilt. Tried rage menace, very good. My only gripe with it now is that it seems like a small offering on a buzzbait. Next up I’ll try a little larger paddletails and skirts.

edit: I like Nichols brand. Nothing fancy but very well made.

Straight out of the package the Cavitron is my favorite.  White or Black.  Not sold on the idea that blade color matters.  I don't notice a difference in the number of bites with a plastic added but they seem to eat it better.  Also have days that the skirt and a trailer hook get it done.  

 

 

Not so sure color really matters with a buzzbait as it's a fairly fast moving reaction bait. 

I've caught as many on black as I have on white. Idk

I do know it's a personal favorite and produces quality fish. 

Have several brands and have never removed the skirt or had the need for trailer hook......they work. 

Cavitron black blade, black skirt.  When I've tried a plastic body, like a toad instead of the skirt, I haven't liked it -- I have to move it faster to keep it from sinking, but I tend to get more bites at a slower retrieve.

Another vote for cavitron here. Seems like I’m able to reel it a little slower than others but still keep it working.

Imo a good counter rotating double buzzers are more versatile the singles. The double can crawl at slower speeds or faster speed with a wide verity of trailers.

I use the Cavitron and Crock-O-Gator about equally. 

Another Cavitron user. Usually white with whatever color blade, I think mine are red. If the skirted version isn't doing anything, I'll switch to a toad or some type of trailer.

I buy the Walmart ones, you know the dollar apiece ones in the box on the bottom shelf. Sometimes you might have to tweak them here or there, but no big deal. 
I like to put about 1/3-1/2 a curly tailed worm as a trailer on it sometimes. I save my old plastics and reuse those too if I can for trailers. 
I saw a guy on Utube reworking buzz baits and spinner baits from Walmart. It was pretty interesting.

*To date , no one has addressed your question on skirts OR no skirts for Buzz Baits : From what I have researched - there is a short late Winter / Spring window (depending on where you live) around the pre-spawn / spawn where Pros will opt for a Buzzbait with a skirt . All other times through post - spawn through Fall - the Pro consensus is no skirt replaced with a soft plastic fluke , swim bait , grub , creature bait or craw . Another consideration is a "Hybrid" approach : Leave the skirt on the Buzzbait , however cut the skirt back to 1/4th" beyond the bend in the hook - then thread on your soft plastic trailer of choice . This can give you the best of both worlds with a Buzzbait that casts better in the wind and with a slight rod pump can flair the skirt for additional action . Lastly , playing around with the trimmed back skirt color and the soft plastic color can create a matching color OR add a contrasting color to your Buzzbait (although a Buzzbait is still mostly a reaction strike).

I buy and try out all sorts of buzzbaits, including some of the more expensive JDM brands just because I’m a sick in the head tackle junky, but in all honesty there’s no need for anything other than a Cavitron imo. You need a black one and a white one. 
 

I’ll occasionally throw on a paddle tail or a crazy flapper. 

I use several brands of buzzbaits. I’ve added paddletails a few times when the skirt has gotten beat up, but I’ve never noticed a difference in the bite. 

I've thrown a toad buzz a little, but not a ton. I seem to have more luck with a skirt. But again, I haven't thrown the toad enough for a fair shake. I really like the Jigmasters buzzbait for a skirted one. The head design keeps it running true very well.

Black or white toad 95% of the time as toads skip well.

The only time I use a skirt is if there are small baitfish…I will use the finesse buzz and trim the skirt back.  A toad gives a pretty big profile.
