I caught one about 5 1/2 lbs on a # 12 black stone fly, 5 wt, 4 lb tippet, while fishing for sunnies, now that was intense. The PB came on my wife's 5'9" Compre, 2000 Stradic, and 6 lb xl, didn't put up the kind of fight one would expect from a big fish, just had to keep it out of some pads a couple of times, then it just basically gave up. 

My PB fought like a wet boot.

That’s really interesting. Mine was a bear, and the water was under 50 too. But I was using a medium spinning rod so that made it a little more fun. A lot of bulldogging and surging deep

T - rigged culprit ?

Weightless 4” Senko 8.5lb.

My largest bass was caught on a Googan Hummer, My second was caught on a whopper plopper. Big girls like it on topwater.

See the diversity in answers though? There is no magic bait for these fish. All the way from 4” senko to whopper ploppers

Bagely spinner minnow top water 10-14

Senko and chatter bait 9-9

Largie - 21 inches/between 5-6 pounds (2) on a spro hollow frog and a powerbait ribbon tail worm

Smallie - 21 inches/between 5-6 pounds (2) on a storm subwart and a ned rig

 

Having trouble cracking the 21 inch/6 pound barrier in both species.

 

I caught my Largemouth and Smallmouth Bass PB on a deep-diving perch colored Shadow Rap! The Largemouth PB was around 4.5 lbs.

My PB was on a Strike King 1/2oz spinnerbait in 1991. It was near dusk and I just enjoyed throwing it. So I'm just throwing from shore and not thinking too much about it. It goes by a bush and BANG, this 4.5lb largemouth annihilates it. It even got my picture in this local fishing magazine. Pretty cool experience for an 11 year old kid. 

 

 We'll ignore the fact that I haven't caught one bigger in the past 31 years... ?

SM: 6 ish with half a night crawler. Two fish probably pushing 6 with a rattle trap (avatar pic) and a tube

Weighed: 5.18 lb. LMB on a weightless Texas rig with a Daiwa Yamamoto Neko Macho on a 3/0 Gamakutsu EWG. 
 

Not weighed: est. 6-7 lb. LMB on a #6 Eagle Claw snelled baitkeeper hook, half a nightcrawler and a bobber. 
 

Ps- that’s when I bought a scale!

5” wacky SENKO.  I was caught by surprise for sure.
