What's your FAVORITE rod in your arsenal?

Featured Replies

Daiwa Steez 761 MML (1st generation)

Easily the best rod I've ever used.  It's my Ned rig rod and is uber-sensitive.  I have no doubt that I catch more fish using this rod compared to lesser models.  I'm going to buy the 2021 version when it gets in stock somewhere.

can't do it - there's not a bum in the crowd   I could pick a least favorite, Omen Green 7'7" ML spinner, but then I can also pick a niche where it's the exact rod to load in the kayak.

G loomis IMX MBR844C   Most versatile rod I have ever owned from bass to trophy pike & lake trout. It can handle baits much bigger than its stated range.

  • Interesting looking sticks, but…  I would be really afraid to type “pride rods” in the browser at work.

Cool! Have you compared it with an nrx? I’ve never tried a steez spinning.

Same as @Dwight Hottle and @ATA, the IMX-PRO 844C MBR. I absolutely love that thing. It can do anything. When I want to go light, I'll take that one and the 852S, those pretty much cover everything I throw (even frogs if I downsize them).

I'm thinking of upgrading it to the NRX+ this year, though... Let's see.

Have you had a chance to compare it to an nrx? I’ve heard good things about the imx! Was looking to pick one up soon

Not yet. I've tried the JWRs but not the MBR.

But the NRX+ is on the way from a little tackle shop in Sardinia, Italy, the only place in the whole EU where it was in stock. Should get here by Friday and I have a trip this weekend, so I'll update you as soon as I can ?

my favorite is my megabass orrochi xx whipsnake. its also the most limited rod i own but man its  fun to fish with. when a ned rig or light drop shot bite is on that thing is a blast.

Yeh, I've got that same rod and it's pretty sweet! I don't think it will be going anywhere for awhile.

A denali lithium pro 7' 4" frog rod.  Heavy with mod fast action.

Fish it with 40 PP and it has the PERFECT action.

Conquest 844c mbr

It’ll happily throw any jig in my arsenal…even finesse jigs well below its intended weight range.

A close second would be the legend x 68mxf…it’s dynamite for flukes specifically, so it’s less versatile than the 844c but it’s so good for weightless flukes, it’s in the discussion.

There's a local tackle shop near me that has the nrx older model 842c mbr...owner said he would make me a good deal.  Been hard to pass up...what do you think?  What techniques do you use it for? Thanks everyone

I suspect it will become your favorite rod!

I like the 842 for small/ medium weight swim baits, weighted

soft plastics and light jigs.

I’ll probably have a lot of you shaking your heads when I tell you mine.

It is a 6.6 medium ugly stik . I have fished with it over 20 years. Ive caught at least 2000 bass on it…( And that is a conservative estimate.)

I have a very high hook up and landing percentage with it.( 80% is conservative) I don’t know what it is , but I love this rod.

I recently got a nice 7.0 medium ( Fast tip)Fenwick rod, and I’m still getting used to it but it fishes well too.

Both of these rods are used 100% for all my soft plastic applications…

2019 7'3" 4 power zbone on the x ray blank.  Like it for 3/8- 1/2" jigs.  Super sensitive and locks up well.

Mine is my NRX+ 842C MBR. This is my first high-end rod and it’s blown me away. It weighs 3.42 oz and is incredibly comfortable. I’ve only fished it 6 times this year so far and have tried a handful of different lures w/ it. My favorite, by far, has been using it to slowly drag a finesse tube for smallies. The sensitivity combined w/ the performance when fighting aggressive smallmouth has been phenomenal. As impressed as I was when I received it, it’s only getting better and better as I get used to it.

Graphite Shimano GR-01451 - ultralight.  Caught a 15 lb striper on 6 lb test while fishing for largemouth bass in the SJ County Delta system. Hell of a fight. Still using it as my primary rod.

It depends on the day. I really like my Steez AGS bottom contact rod, it's my goto jig rod. I also really like my 7' Tatula Elite M-MH/XF rod for finesse jigs and soft plastics - throws them weightless but has enough power for lighter cover too.

But on many days if I bring just one rod, it will be my 7'1" Tatula Elite M/F spinning rod. It's well suited for throwing a finesse jig, weightless wacky rigged soft plastics, drop shots (not too overpowered for smaller drop shots but ideal for larger baits), shaky heads and finesse tubes. Also a good choice for 1/4oz inline spinners and 1/4oz poppers and other smaller baits. Basically I can catch fish any day of the year with this rod and never miss a bite.

Lots of cool rods! So tempting to pick up a few more!

Kistler 7’ MH Helium 3. Awesome Jig rod

My new St. Croix Legend Tournament rods. This rod is better than my custom rods!  I have a baitcaster and spinning rod, and both are incredibly light, sensitive, and powerful.  I have a hard time putting them down!

Quantum Tour KVD PT Cranking Rods

Relatively Heavy vs most every graphite blank

Totally lacks even half the sensitivity of a graphite stick

Plenty of low end and still seriously parabolic

And that's the magic

Very surprising...

It'd be a toss up between my 7'2 ml+ Shimano Expride A and my 7'1 Mh xf Daiwa Steez ags (old model).
