Wake Baits

Featured Replies

Anyone have any good wake baits they like.

I fell in love with the Spro Rat this year, not truly a wake bait but it doesnt go deep at all.

I also enjoyed a snake from save I think. Fun Bites!

Anything else that you love to use that would be considered a wake bait?

I've have a couple of Storm Arashi wake baits that have pretty good action, and they are affordable too.

I have the trout and bluegill patterns.

Do people consider glide baits wake baits?

I see some wake baits advertised as such, but in reality they are topwater.

To me a wake bait is partially below the surface or just under the surface to create the "Wake"

I fish those either on the surface or sub surface. They aren't really a wake bait, but can be used as such.

Black Dog Baits Shellcracker G2. PB Rat. 6th Sense Speed Wake. Megabass I-Loud (not a traditional wake bait tho).

Modified broken back Long A. I don't do "techniques" so anything that creates a wake on the surface or just below it, I fish as such. A spook in the right hands wakes well.

I love wake baits too!
One of my favorites is “ the egg” from BPS, Texas shad.
I just ordered some from Aliexpress, 1/4 & 3/16 ounce …. Setting up a  BFS rig and lures to take on vacation.

The closest thing I have to a wakebait is the BPS XPS the Egg.  I've done pretty well with it.  Reel it in at a moderate pace, and it wakes.  Reel it in faster, and it dives down about a foot.

That one is definitely pretty good.  I still prefer the discontinued Storm Subwart.  The BPS XPS Super Shallow Crank or The Egg are the closest resemblance to the subwart that I've found though.  Those lures are my go-to in the small river I fish in midsummer for brown bass.

The closest thing to a “traditional” wake bait I use is a floating Sebile Magic Swimmer.
I just started using them again and wondered why I stopped.

Old school, but I often use Spinnerbaits as wake baits. I use the lighter weight (1/4 or 3/8 oz). Add a 3 to 5 inch long paddletail swim minnow as a trailer, and crank them just fast enough so that the run barely under the surface creating a wake. Sometimes I double up on the skirt on the spinnerbait to give it even more buoyancy so I can run it at slower speeds and still throw a good wake.

This bait looks good and has good action, but I have not caught anything on it yet.  I will confess that I have not thrown it very much though.  I got it this past winter, but the enthusiasm for it waned between then and post spawn.
