Any Use for a Broken Spinning Reel?

Hey,

I set the hook the other day (on a rock, incidentally) and ended up with my rod in my right hand and my reel in my left hand. This was a medium action rod with 10 pound test line... and somehow the reel foot broke first. A bit of a head scratcher there, but Lew's says they'll replace it, which is nice.

In the meantime, is there any use for this? Any sense in keeping it for parts or anything?

Overall it's a decent reel. It's very heavy compared to my nicer reels, but at least it's smooth. I'm not a hoarder by nature, just trying to think if I can use it for anything before throwing it away. Thoughts?

Fish long enough and hard enough eventually you’ll end up with a “parts bin” with rod guides, reels and assorted parts.  I have dipped into that bin to replace broken guides, reel pars and rod parts.  You’ll be amazed at how many parts are interchangeable and it’s pretty dang cost effective to give a rod life again with a salvaged guide or tip.

Considering you are getting another one as replacement.....I'd keep it all for spare parts, but most certainly hang on to the spool so that you can have another line option for the new reel they send you.

The broken foot part does fit between the fingers nicely... but this is NY and I'm fairly certain that "broken reel pieces" are prohibited by the SAFE Act.

Spool, spool knob and drag washers I would save. Having a spare spool for the new reel they send you would be great.

I have the same reel. I love everything about it except the graphite frame
