Not the biggest bass but for December 29th it completes my 12 month challenge. This also sets a new personal record for latest bass date caught in the year. Previous record was December 23 so now I am at the 29th. Fish was caught on one of my own poorly tied hair jigs. Allen Nicely done! Now, how poorly-tied could it really be if you got bit? Super User Munkin Posted January 2 Author Super User Share Posted January 2 My poorly tired jigs, the one on the right is what I caught that last fish on. The black one is what I was using to catch fish last January. Allen

I also live in MD, but the southern part of the state. I started this challenge myself years ago to see how long I could go. So far, I've caught one every month since I started it in March of 2015. January and February are always the toughest, although, like you, I had one December get down to the 29th. And twice I've had to travel south to catch my monthly fish. I mostly fish farm ponds down here, which can ice over sometimes, so I get itchy in the winter. My wife has told me she is tired of me telling her I was concerned because I only have 25 days left to catch a fish in Jan or Feb. I caught one the other day on the 4th, so I'm good for January this year. And we are vacationing in SC next month, so I hope that increases my odds for February. It boils down to being able to catch a bass every month of the year for 2023. So far I am 10 for 10 this year and think I can make it. Weather is turning cold quickly but November should not be a problem. December I may have to break out the bear hair jigs again but I think I can make it happen. The latest I have ever caught a bass was December 26th and the earliest was January 1st. February is the hardest month IMO but this year was warmer than usual which helped. Now I just need to hit up some friends to tie me some more bear hair jigs as I lost most of my stash back in January/February. Allen I have made it the last 2 years now - going on 25 straight months now with a bass every month in Pennsylvania. A few were through the ice in 2022 but I managed an open water one in every month of 2023. On 10/30/2023 at 11:32 PM, Munkin said: So in December of last year I got into a bass fishing challenge. WVU-SCPA
Starting 0 for 1 in 24. Don't even have a fishing license yet. yuck. In 2017 I attempted a bass every week of the year. Was going to jokingly make one of those photo calendars for my wife consisting of me hold the 4/5 fish of the month. Made through a week in Feb where it didn't get above 17 degrees. Failed in March in week 11 when work got in the way. Never made the calendar.

FishTax
I failed 2024 if we're only counting Bass. January was tough on me. I should have hit some farm ponds to catch a bass with no pressure, but I'm stubborn and like the challenge of pressured public lake on my kayak even when I'm getting skunked. I did catch yellow perch and shad this month so I'm not totally fishless for 2024!
Susky River Rat
@softwateronly I’m glad you do but, it’s the last day of Jan and I am fishless. Weather didn’t not play into my hand as I couldn’t really get out
softwateronly
@Susky River Rat '24 can only get better . I'm likely to be in your position myself. I have a window Friday and Saturday with some ice melting temps to possibly make Feb work but after the 5th, I'm going to be slammed with work and out of town for weeks at a time so the end is near. scott
Terry_
Legend has it that pro Angler Charlie Hartley has caught a fish (bass or otherwise) every day for years now. We would have to find someone that knows him to confirm, but i think i remember him confirming as fact on BTL a while back. Must be great to be retired!

Woody B
Some locations catching a Bass every month isn't going to happen. I caught a Bass every week of 2022, but didn't in 2023. I've already sit out a week this year too. I didn't catch as many Bass this January as I would have hoped to, but I'm pleased with the size of the ones I've caught. My numbers are miniscule compared to many around here. My big ones are minnows compared to many around here. I'm still thrilled with myself, and also with everyone elses catches. To anyone who didn't catch a January Bass, hang in there. February is a new month. (and yes, in keeping with my previous post in this thread I'll be nervous until I get the February skunk out of my boat)
Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted February 2 Global Moderator Share Posted February 2 @FishTax, I caught a yellow perch and like a solid 1 lb gizzard shad today ! What a coincidence did get an SMB too, on the board for Feb
rgasr63
This is the first year to try this challenge . I got 3 the last week in January and 3 today. I caught a 5 lber today. But with hard baits so far this year. I have yet to catch one with soft plastics.

Super User Bankbeater Posted February 9 Super User Share Posted February 9 There have been a few years when I caught bass in January, and then completely bombed out until April. Last year I was able to get out on the water every month. I didn't catch every month but I got out on the water.
