First Bass of 2024

Featured Replies

I had a couple of firsts the other day.

Late last year I had the good fortune to move into a lake house on Sinclair. I have a big, isolated, deep water dock that looks like a great place to hold bass in the spring and summer, but I haven't seen any bass or baitfish hanging around the docks.

When I take my dog out in the morning to do his business I'll bring a rod, skip something under the dock, and cast around but had not pulled a bass out from under the dock. I have caught some casting off the end to deeper water.

Anyway, the other day I tossed an A-rig along the side of the dock and a nice 2+ pounder came out and crushed it. So it was my first bass of 2024, first bass I lured out from under my dock, and my first bass on an A-rig.

I simply can't wait for the water to warm up and the days to get longer. I'm going to be out there on my dock or on my kayak every single day after work.

Meanwhile I'll be staring at the calendar hoping it'll speed up...120 days until bass opener.

I missed this post I guess. Something like 7:04AM on the 1st of January.

Finally, the third trip of the year was a charm.  I got this one on a white 3/8 spinnerbait yesterday morning.

My first (and only) 2024 bass was little. He was so cold that it almost hurt to handle him. Say, if anyone knows why I can't load my bass vertically anymore, please let me know. I used to rotate them before I loaded them and they stayed that way. Now they no longer do. They're vertical on my computer, but horizontal at BR.

Until about 10 years ago, it actually used to be the last Saturday in May.  They moved it up 2 weeks.

I believe some locations in Canada they cannot target a bass until June.

Late June, almost July

I haven't bass fished since Oct 22, 2023.

Today is the first legal day here to target them in open water for 2024.

At 6:37am, I piled into this decent fish, which was my first this season.  Caught 9 more and a pike by the time I left at 10:30am.

It feels good to be bass fishing again.
