I love how easy it is to rig a soft plastic bait using a EWG hook (as compared to an offset round bend hook) . Conversely , the knock on the EWG hook are worse hook ups due to the hook tip being in line with the hook eye (as compared to the offset round bend hook) . *Does any EWG hook maker have a EWG design where the hook point is slightly higher than the hook eye (or feature some other design improvement)  to allow for better hook ups with an EWG hook ?

However, you might also consider taking needle nose pliers & slightly bending the hook point out, similar to what some anglers do with some hollow bodied frogs but that may result in more snagging of vegetation, etc.

I only use Trokar hooks for all plastic presentations and have for years. 

 

TK 110 EWG for light to moderate cover

The gammy G finesse hybrid is really good and I'm not a fan of EWGs.

My hook of choice when throwing the swinghead for brown bass, with Rage Bug trailers, has been the straight up regular wire Gamakatsu 4/0 EWG. Works well, still lose a few but by & large this one did most of the heavy lifting. The balance between being stout enough to get the fish to the net and still be thin enough to enable long distance hooksets with 15 lb FC is a fine one.  I’ve had a few of these ‘open’ just a bit, which never makes me happy. 

However there’s a new kid in town which may take this ones place.

It’s early in my R&D but the Gamakatsu G-Finesse Hybrid Worm has massive potential IMO.

At 4/0 maintains the right shape & size BUT carries just a little bit more horsepower on the hookset. 

So there's very little IMO, that's finesse going on there.

Time will tell but until it proves me wrong, I’m going with it.

VMC RedLine Series Hybrid

 

It use to be a 4/0 Gamakatsu but I have been impressed with Ryugi's Infini and it has become my go to hook. I have had really no hook up issues or lost fish with either one. I also like the Owner Haymaker and the Gamakatsu Hybrid but the best quality and bang for the buck has been the Ryugi.

I use 2 brands of ewg hooks the Vmc Ike ewgs for my light rigs. If it is a heavier t rig or I think it is thicker cover I use the owner ewg+ never have any troubles 

The gamakatsu ewg is my standard for plastics. I carry 1/0 to 5/0. For swim baits I go to owner but for general ewg I don’t have any reason to switch from gamakatsu.

VMC has the most hook gap/bite out of the box in my experience. I've seen it across a few different of their lines. But you can always take a pair of pliers and bend any points out if fishing one where there isn't enough gap. I agree with you, it's all about the angle of the point on EWGs. I've been happy with all of the VMCs I've fished

This is the first hook that has stood head and shoulders above other reputable companies to me.  I barely want to type it, been perfect so far over the last 1.5years.  I grabbed some ryugi infiniti and decoy kg hooks for 1/0 and smaller, but haven't fished them yet.  The gamakatsu g-finesse run slightly larger.

I use the Gamma regular and Super Line EWG hooks - although great quality , they don’t have a lot of hook gap (as compared to some of the newer EWG hook designs) .

My fav is the Gammy G Lock...

I use the Decoy KG Ringed EWG hooks often now and have also used the Infini Hobbit for downsized EWG purposes.

 

One more vote for the Gammy G finesse.

@ChrisD46 Please don’t take offense in me asking, but now that I see the whole picture after you’ve supplied additional info (using a fluke), are you Texposing the hook point & still having hookup issues?
 

Other options might include using a hook with a centering pin/screw lock in the eye. Could also be other factors besides hook causing missed fish.

 

My opinion only, you get what you pay for in most hooks & lines.
