Looks like an SV Boost knock off.  The Ray's spools are already a knock off of the Daiwa Air spools which are a knock off and/or collaboration with KTF.  This spool is the 1st aliexpress spool I have seen with the dual rate spring similar to what is found in SV Boost spools.  I'm all for it if it means knock off SV Boost spools can be found for Daiwa platforms that haven't or may never receive SV Boost spools.

An alphas 800svtw with an sv boost bfs spool could be very interesting, I'm tempted...

$215 to-my-door for two mint condition old magnesium JDM reels - one first gen Steez (with a SV spool), one first gen Aldebaran - I'd say it's a pretty good deal.

Postal lady just dropped this off.   $122cdn from the Japan auctions and this reel is mint.   Description said “smell of cigarettes”…  I disagree.   It smells like “success”   LoL

I wasn't searching for the 2020 met, but for this price, i might as well get one myself. I look at my local stores, and they're sold for $700cad before taxes. The difference in price simply couldn't be any bigger.

i wasn’t searching for a 2020 met either.  But accidentally came across it and figured for $122 I’d get it.  Cost $13

shipping and $25 customs.   So I’m in it for $160 over the $700 plus tax price tag locally.   Even new from JLS they’re about $400 all said and done with shipping and customs

It usually isn't until April when I start fishing, the weather hear has been usually warm than usually so far. I never know when the first time out will happen until the weather is normal.

Pretty much how i got the aldebaran mgl 30. Didn't like how hollow the reel felt (felt like a d**n toy), so just sold it at a profit.

Oh ok I live in VA but don’t really get out too much in the winter because I fish from kayak.

Glad to see this thread on topic.

My heavy-ish Bright River bakelite rod grip matched with Isuzu BC420SSS made the rounds - I first matched it with Bright River 5'6" Quatre 1-power for 3" weightless senko, then with Kuramochi Synapse 5'11" ML/L for finesse distance.  But I dialed-in both rod blades and niches with Badger and Sabre BFS combos.

So my best reel with coolest grip out of service, I wanted a heavier (weight) ML to balance it for river kayak finesse-spinners and plugs.  I bought Bright River's top-grade rod, Satori, 5'6" 2-power composite - UD glass wrapped with 4-axis carbon skeleton in clear resin.  I cast it first with 3 g.  Perfect skip casts, 90' bullet casts, perfect loading, perfect accuracy.  Yeah, I like it, and like the way this looks.

Some rods I got pretty recently:

Cashion element z2 frog 7’3 heavy fast

Falcon Lowrider finesse jig 6’10 medium heavy mod fast

Used reels from Japanese market is the big brain play.

At the cost they're sold in NA, i'd say it isn't just a big brain play, but the only play there is lol.

100%… figured that out a year and a bit ago.   Take them apart and give a good clean and out together and they’re as good as new.   Plus it’s easier to fish the heck out of a reel once someone gets the first scratches on them for you :)

when I’m getting 2016 Steez SVs and 2017 Steez As in near mint condition for $140-150 used in Japan (still going for $879 new Canada local to me)… it’s a no brainer for sure!

@Brycecover - what price point for the rod? The 7'2" ML poison adrena is a pretty sweet rod for a lot of things. I bet the new 7' ML zodias is also (I have the 6'9" version).

150-250 probably. Use it for mainly wacky rig, smaller fluke, drop shot, ned rig, maybe 1/8 ounce shakey head too. I do have a medium power fast too for heavier spinning stuff.

The zodias would be just over that at $270 (and is only available for preorder right now). I really like shimano spinning rods so I'd be investigating that one in your situation. But I haven't held it (its a new model) so I can't say for sure for you ordering it blind. But owning the 6'9" ML and having fished my dad's 7' M, plus having the 7'2" ML PA and the 6'10" UL/M PA I am reasonably confident that the 7' ML is going to be right in that ballpark. The 7' M is rated for 1/2 oz also so if they kept the bottom nominally the same but lightened the top quarter (which would take it from fast to extra fast and lower the lure rating to 1/8 oz) then that's my guess on what the ML will be.

Thank you. I will look into those when they are available. I went into a store today and the only zodias available was the 7’ m which balanced about an inch above the nut. The Fenwick eagle and Dobyns champion balanced right at the lock nut while the gcx 7’1 balanced 1/2 inch above lock nut. Gonna see what I see at some fishing expo type things next two weekends and go from there.

@Brycecover - my dad has that 7' M zodias with a vanford, but it takes 4k sized reel to balance it at the lock nut (which is where I prefer it also). I'd rather have the same weight but smaller profile stradic 3k size. The zodias have the monocoque rear grips which are super light weight and don't help with balance, but do with overall weight.

I had been wanting a GLX BCR802 for some time, finally found one. Mint and local. Happy 2026!

I'd have bought that b if I ran across it. I had a fleet of BCRs back in '05. They have sensitivity that can still hang.

Had an NRX 802 in spinning a long time ago, thoughts of trying a casting version resurfaced recently. Never owned a GLX BCR before and always had been intrigued by their styling. Excited to fish it this season, I'm in socal so we do a lot of slow dragging smaller size worms with light lines in super clear waters.

Unfortunately I may have to go with a non Shimano then… I will try to find a ml to try it with. the curado 7’ m balanced it at 1/2 inch above the lock nut.

After Christmas buys. The USLA AGS for half price @ TW got me. Picked up the 7' ml and h. Check out those shorty 8" handles!

JLS received a couple of 7-6 RC's, and I bit 🤷‍♀️. Weighs 3.6oz!

Very nice. I'm aware its supposed to a flipping stick but it's rated MH+, wondering if it's a broom stick like 611MH
