$215 to-my-door for two mint condition old magnesium JDM reels - one first gen Steez (with a SV spool), one first gen Aldebaran - I'd say it's a pretty good deal.

  • Finally, It is here.

@Bass Rutten those spool containers are highly reactive to soft plastics, I found that out the hard way D mine has a little berkley powerbait egg shaped hole in it from some improper storage in the garage.

Lol no, I had a collapsible pole I use for trout sometimes lazily left rigged with a couple powerbait eggs on the hook. Stuck it next to the spool in the garage and the plastic egg ate a hole through the spool canister.

The plastic boxes BKK hooks come in have the same reactivity problem.

I’m really looking forward to reading your thoughts once you receive the spool.

Is it just me who can’t see the images?

No, not just you Eric…I can’t see them either. Was really looking forward to seeing the sloth…

What is the difference between this and a regular sv spool? What reel did you get it for?

It'll be going into a zillion. It's the stock spool from the older steez svtw, and weighs in 2g lighter than the stock zillion spool. Reports are generally glowing and raves about control and lighter bait handling. I've yet to use it.

Unfortunately, it could be a while, every rod I own is on the other side of the country. What interested me in it is that it's stated as being fluorocarbon safe due to its wall thickness, and has a two stage braking system like daiwas boost.

So you ordered the spool from the Steez sv 1016? I actually have that reel and could compare both spools if I put the same line on them.

Yep, it's the stock spool from the older 2016 model.

Bought a Megabass P5 Destroyer X-Bites. Put one of my Zillion HD reels on it.

Visited the PCS Fishing Show in San Diego and picked up a refurbished Daiwa Lexa 300 to pair with my Champion XP 766. I spooled it with 65 lb J-Braid and will add a leader as needed. It looks beat up, but don’t let that fool you. First, the reel is a solid block of metal, and it free-spools like a high-end conventional reel. As most of you know, I’m a Shimano guy, but these Daiwa Lexa reels are amazing, so you can take that to the bank when I say it. LOL

@Bass Rutten I might use that for some swimbaits as well, but I think I have enough to cover my swimbaits from 6" 3oz to 16" 24oz )

This one I am going to use for heavy cover in crazy cheese water in SoCal. or larger frogs 1oz or higher Texas rig weighted and etc...

Do you have anything in mind?

I would like to know what you think of this rod. I've tried one briefly that a guy had in our tournament group and it wasn't what I thought it would be.

I have almost pulled the trigger on it a few times. I'm a big fan of the P5 rods. It would be good to hear another opinion from someone that is new to it.

I haven’t had a chance to fish with it yet. I bought it for light Texas rigs and 1/4 to 3/8 compact jigs. I tied on a 3/16 weight and a baby brush hog and did some casting in the back yard. It’s got a really nice tip for throwing light baits for a heavy rod. It definitely doesn’t feel like a Heavy rod, more like a MH. I’ve heard it can feel mushy with 1/2 oz and up.I think it’s going to perfect for what I want it for. I’ll keep you updated.

My new IMX pro arrived at my dealer today. Have just seen the pictures so far and it looks pretty sweet. Hoping to pick it up tomorrow!

@Jaybert My First loomise was Conquest 844mbr, and honestly, if I could have one rod for all my life, it would be 844mbr. Congrats and tight lines.

Thanks ! I have MBR 782 & MBR 783 now so this completes my set of nice multi-purpose rods. Good to hear it was a good rod for you, lots of positive reports out there on the 844 of various series so I am looking forward to it as an all around rod for the heavier stuff !

@ATA is always showing his salt tackle. All I've been adding lately is surf tackle, and still not done. Always worth showing (most of) my surf Ambassadeurs.

Zl17bzy.jpg

I've had this Tsunami Airwaves 1102H matched for years with big 72-mm-spool, 10000-frame Tica spinner

zxQPNVq.jpg

Decided to match it instead with a smaller 60-mm-spool large-frame Tica (and 7 ounces lighter) to make it more versatile, and double up to throw big lures.

qOzle5D.jpg

So I added 12' Breakaway GDX to match with the big Tica for staking 2-6 oz

xG3I4SG.jpg

EyFzmXb.jpg

This still leaves me with my best-ever bench distance-reel (1/2 oz past 100 yds) without a full-time match. It got displaced from my 8' ML surf-lure rod when I bench-raced 6500 CS Rocket on Akios LW frame.

BTeXQHs.jpg TftlZi5.jpg

Next month, I'll probably add 10'6" Breakaway Omega 2-4-oz to double this up for both big lures and staking more meat.
