Jerkbait Rod

Do you guys throw your jerk baits on spinning or casting.

For standard & smaller sized jerkbaits I'm about  93.7 % spinning.

(That might even be a little low, especially that .7)

I blame the wind and being such a novice caster.

When it is spinning, I go Light Braid mainline with a pretty long light FC or mono leader.

Bigger jerk baits (think LC 128)  usually end up on casting gear,

with straight 12 FC.

Either way, not sure spinning/casting matters all that much,

as long as the gear is matched & balanced with the bait.

Still a treble hook bait and sometimes those hooks a pretty small.

Something to take into account for sure.

Baitcaster

Both.

Most jerkbaits cast poorly on my casting gear, but using a SLX with an MGL spool solves this for me.

I can cast most jerkbaits even lighter ones farther than with my spinning combos.

However i prefer using spinning gear because somehow it lets me work the lure back to the boat/kayak/bank better. It just doesnt feel right with a casting rod....

BC.  Action on the lure is way easier for me to impart when palming a reel.  If I fish one for 4 hours I'd be needing Advil if it were on spinning...

Spinning 95% of the time.

Casting.

Casting for me, and I'm up to 3 rods that cover all my size/weight needs.

Both.  Baitcasting in Spring and Fall when I want a slower presentation and spinning in Summer for a faster presentation.  For me, it's easier to work a spinning rod down faster.

Dobyns 685cb baitcaster for standard jerkbaits…

Cashion Icon 7’ Light BFS baitcaster for junior size jerkbaits..

Casting most of the time but I do like to throw a few of the smaller ones on spinning.

With that said,  BFS gear has definitely made an impact for me when it comes to jerkbaits 3/16 and under.  I just seem to catch more fish with it.

Baitcaster unless the jerkbait is very, very light,

90% baitcaster.  I'll use a spinning setup if it's windy or if I'm throwing small jerkbaits / flukes.

Interesting topic...I actually used to prefer spinning then eventually grew into a casting rod. Right now I have a 6'10 kaden that I pretty much use just for jerkbaits (sometimes a few other things) and have been really happy with it. My main concern was lighter jerkbaits and things like a shad rap seemed like a better fit for a spinning rod (especially in any sort of wind) but this rod w/ a decent reel (I use a lew's kvd currently) do fine for me. If you are going to go the spinning route there aren't a ton of options out there but st. croix has a couple and abu garcia makes a winch rod that might be worth looking into...
