Out of my budget.

I don’t think there is any issue with buying it if you can afford it. When you feel like you need it but, can’t afford it that’s the problem.

  • Often times there's more to it than just catching bass . . .  A-Jay

  • There are bodies of water where you might need a boat that big and that fast and that equipped with electronics to catch bass, but on lots of water, you can catch big bass and some days, lots of bass

I wish I had a lake near me to warrant a bigger boat. :(  I am a fishing fool who can be easily separated from his wallet! LOL

I am in the same boat as you. I should of never sold my 16' Aluminum boat. I have a very nice fishing kayak, but d**n to I miss being COMFORTABLE while chasing my favorite species of fish. I'll keep paddling the kayak around as anything over $30,000 is above my budget. I am starting to seriously look at used boats nowadays.

I would be curious to know how many of these 100k bass boats are actually sold a year.

Hundreds and hundreds yearly!

In the 60-80k price range locally there are several every week sold in season and around 3/4 per month in the winter. That’s at one dealership I frequent.

And these numbers are nothing to the saltwater boats at 5 to 10 times the price.

It’s all perspective. Heck I could never figure out who was purchasing the multi hundreds of new 800k/one million dollar + homes being built around town.

I carried a million dollar liability and agreed price on my Bullet and that wasn't more than $400. When you bundle multiple vehicles, homeowners, riders for valuables, it's actually not that bad.

My boat was 40k and was $258. I could see a bass boat being exspensive due to the speed.

We are each different in what we feel good about when it come to 'insurance.

I'm a fan of and am willing to pay for Total loss replacement

Usually available for purchase if you’re the original owner of your boat

and it’s no more than one model year old. Mine was new.

If your boat is totaled within 5 model years, I get a  new one or I'm reimbursed

the amount that I originally paid for a totaled boat—my choice.

If the rig is outside the 5 model-year window, I still get the original purchase price of the boat.

Depreciation is also taken into account and covered.

Bottom line is if in the unlikely event my rig is a total loss, I'm paying to recover the most I can get given the circumstances.

Paying good money for less coverage does sit well with me.

YMMV

Try insuring a car for a teenage boy. Then come talk to me about high rates. Boat insurance is such a tiny line item in the total cost of ownership. It's barely a consideration for me.

A-Jay brings up an interesting point about replacement. All my boats have been over a decade old, so I've paid for agreed value. When it comes time to buy, I may need to chat about it.

One would hope lol I don’t know if every state requires it. If you are financing it though the finance company won’t let you have it unless you have insured.

One other point, despite owning two very fast boats, I wasn't dinged for that. All the agent cared about was how much liability I needed and what it would cost to replace it. Nothing was said about its top speed. That might different elsewhere in the country.

Minnesota actually does not require it unless there’s a lien holder.

I would never go without it regardless. As @J Francho stated it’s such a minor cost of having a boat it would be foolish not to have it.

I am a year and a half away from that so if you can keep posts like this to a minimum for my sanity I’d greatly appreciate it. 😂

I'm rubber and you're glue. What ever you say bounces off me and sticks to you!

In the 90s I tried to get boat insurance from GEICO.  They would not insure me be I fished tournaments.  I ask why and they said because of the high speed races to fishing spots.  I pointed out the my boats top speed was 35 mph.  That didn’t matter,  no GEICO insurance.

I'm just hoping that one of you guys will be willing to insure my old canoes. I can afford six bucks a year. Any takers?

  • Super User

I'll do standard glass coverage for that.

$100,000 is chump change. I'm looking to build a $4,000,000 canoe. It will have a swimming pool, helicopter pad, and discotheque. It will, of course, be impossible to paddle, so I'm hoping I can catch a bass while it's docked.

Did Pocahontas carved the canoe herself?? 😁

Only way I could even afford a new motor on Bass Trek is if I won the lottery - a new boat....unknown millionaire relative leaves me lots of money.
