Seaguar Tatsu

Are any of you elite fisher-men and women using this in the 4-6 pound? Is it worth the coin in these pound test categories? No braid here, just straight FC on 2500 Stradics..

I use YZ hybrid a bunch but in 4-6 it breaks way easy. Too easy for me.

What are you using it for? I have 6lb that I use for walleye and very finesse bass fishing applications and I've been happy with it but it isn't a line I use regularly.

I haven't used tatsu but yzh in 4lb and 6lb has been tested for average actual break strength at 8.5lb and 11.9lbs respectively. If you are breaking those easily you're asking for it fishing 6lb fluorocarbon which as a whole has less knot strength than copoly. Sounds like you might need to step up to 7 or 8lb fluoro. How are you breaking off?

I use 6lb on one of my bfs rods. It has had the same line on for 2 seasons now and never had a problem. It was one of my most used combos last year so it's also not just riding the rod rack.

I've been using straight 6lb Tatsu on all my spinning reels (2500's, no braid) for years without any breakoffs or lost fish.  I use it for all finesse applications plus small topwaters and hover rigs.  It's the real deal.

I've been using 6lb YZ hybrid ultra soft for over twenty years. Out side of a stray pickerel I've never broken off a fish.

Thanks, I remember RW talking about it a great deal years ago. I’m going to order some 6 and try it out.

Thanks everyone. Glenn answered my questions.

I use the 4 lb on my bfs and light spinning. It's like slightly harder to manage Sniper but with a ton of abrasion resistance. The first time using it i didn't have to retie for 3 or 4 trips till I hooked a gar.

I have some spinning reels spooled with Tatsu and I like it very much. Never had any issues with it.

The lightest Tatsu I've tried is 10-lb.

Very good low memory, including when I pulled out my Steez 1016 spool that was loaded 5 years ago and stored in a back-up spool can (might have been JDM R-18).

Like most low-memory fluoro, Tatsu is fairy stiff and springy (esp. vs. copoly) - jumps off the spool.  It will be much smaller diameter than YZH for the same test.

The limpest low-memory fluoro I've tried (down to 3-lb) is Toray Xthread - I think it's sold as Solaroam in USM.  It also costs more than Tatsu.

@Glenn @Bluebasser86 - What knots are you using with the light stuff (6 lb)? I’m having a heck of a time with any knot that isn’t a trilene knot with it. I put it on my BFS rig. My usual knot for all things straight mono or fluoro is a double pitzen. I was a palomar user prior to that. I can’t get either of them to do well with 6 lb tatsu. I am wondering if the pitzen is crimping/damaging the running line as the knot cinches down and on 6 lb it’s just too much. I don’t have the same problem on heavier fluoro or mono.

My fluoro leader hook knot is a trilene knot and that was great with 6 lb tatsu. I had a heck of a time breaking off a couple snags today tied that way and I straightened out a light jig hook. If I have to stick with the trilene knot for this line then so be it but it’s just weird to me.

@casts_by_fly I've never had an issue tying a Palomar. The 6lb isn't a size I use a lot but it is great line when I do fish for walleye or want a really finesse presentation for bass.

I've used 6lb but have switched to braid to leader on most of my spinning gear. I do still have it on a BFS setup though. Its great line and I haven't had any issues. I do put it on slightly wet so it doesn't act like a spring when you first start using it.

My fluorocarbon of choice now is 6lb Sunline Invisible. It's not really any better than Tatsu. I just like the color and its what I have confidence in. Its brought in some nice fish for me.

@casts_by_fly Try an eight turn SDJ with a nice dose of spit.

Use the same knot but I do 10-12 turns. Its overkill but I don't have any really bad break offs. I’ve tried other knots but this one has worked the best for me.

I just use Tatsu 6lb as leaders for dropshotting and Ned rigs in clear reservoirs here.

Alberto knot for braid to leader, loop knot for the drop shot hook, improved clinch knot for Neds, so far no issues in years of doing this.

I'm too "frugal" to fill my reels with Tatsu, or use fluoro of any kind.

Can't hurt.

I didn’t read the replies, so I don’t know what this is even about; I just saw the title. Tatsu roughly translates to Dragon in Japanese. That’s enough reason for me to use Tatsu…

On my spinning reels I was using 8lb invisiX switched to 8lb Tatsu.

Tatsu definitely is better line but at about twice the price. Run that all last year without any problems.

I run straight 6lb Tatsu on my finesse spinning reels for drop shot and various neds. I use shallow spool JDM shimano reels, so I get about 90-ish yards of line. I tie a Palomar knot for everything straight fluoro. Never an issue with Tastu.

Yozuri Hybrid 6lb has a line diameter close to most 10lb mono. 6lb tatsu has a smaller diameter.

I justify the cost by using braid to a Tatsu leader. A spool lasts forever this way.
