Is anyone going to pay $700 for a Steez

Featured Replies

I just checked on Omnia and it looks like they have the Steez AGS rods at $699 now. Tackle warehouse still has them at $550 to my knowledge, but I bet they will raise the price soon. Do you think there are any reasons to go with a Steez now that they cost $50 more than a NRX+? Any models that are still worth it even for $150 more?

Not only no, but heck no!

I guess you missed my thread? 🙂

I’m very curious to see what happens. I agree with most that the new price point is absolutely insane. I don’t see them selling well.

The question is, do they lower the price after the decrease in demand? Or do they discontinue them? I’m guessing the latter.

I wouldn’t be surprised if they got discontinued. I wonder if the next version will still have AGS guilds, seems like it’s a love or hate type of deal for most people.

Thought about this rod when posting this thread, seems like a 902 on steroids. Would be fun to fish I’m sure but I can’t spend that much on a rod.

No, but I don't want one.  I do buy expensive stuff from time to time, but am frugal in other areas which allows me to.

I don't think I paid over $475 for any of my Steeze. Of course that was before the increase but I wouldn't buy a Steeze or NRX for that matter online without talking to someone at the shop like ALF.

Might be able to help some or have a used one.

We are out of the baby business at our house but I saw on the news this morning that car seats made in China are going up an average of 400 bucks. Yikes.

I have 4 Steez rods including the 761 in both the 1st and 2nd generation.  While I LOVE both of them, I wouldn't pay $669 for them.  Looks like my next high-end spinning rod will be a NRX+.

And like rangerjockey said, contact ALF for the best price.  Saved big on one of the Steez rods I purchased over the winter with ALF.

Likely no, but maybe? I have the models from that line that interest me. I have the 7'6MML, which suits my needs but doesn't blow me away, and the 7'0 MMH which I love. Based on those rods I'd consider interesting models in a new, refreshed, lineup, BUT the added price is certainly a push towards other brands. I don't own any NRX models and this does more to push me to consider them as options, rather than nudging me towards more Daiwa. At this point, I really enjoy my Megabass rods and on a pricepoint basis, they are looking better than ever right now.

Me? No.

NRX or P5 for me.

With that said, there are A LOT of consumers out there with deep pockets that look for the highest dollar gear.

They buy items that cost the most just because they assume it’s the best, when sometimes it’s not.

People will buy.

I got a few Victorys - but got them on sale/used for about the same as a new (prior gen) Mojo....so our upper limits are about the same.

Nope. Not this prairie dog.

In unrelated news:

I was pulling up to dock and a guy was unloading scuba gear...I inquired.

He was going to help a buddy who "lost a $1,100 set up" in the lake. It was only 9' of water and they had it marked pretty well.

Kayak? Nope, rod and reel(!) I didn't know one could spend that kind of scratch on a "setup," but this thread helps me understand...

You might be my long lost brother.   :)

This is exactly me.

I could have a nicer newer truck. I could have this and that, but I'm a saver for the most part.

So if want to splurge on a $650 rod once and a while, I'll buy one.

Do I have 10 of them? No. But maybe like 4 and growing each year.  :)

These prices are only the beginning. The Hook Up video yesterday said the Jackhammers are going to $20 !

Jackhammers have been $25-27 here for years :)   But I’m also in Canada.   It’s a treat to get them as a free gift from JLS or find them on sale for $20

Megabass, OSP, Raid, Deps, and Jackall have raised prices on a few of their baits as well. For example, the 3in 1/2oz Megabass Dark Sleeper is now $8.99. It was $6.99.

Another odd example, a Strike King 10XD is now $17.99.

They've been that price at my local Dick's Sporting Goods for a few years. Wouldn't be surprised to see them put them up to $25-30 now if thats the case.
