Big winners over the weekend. OSU got the job done at home against #1 Texas thanks to a strong defense. FSU upset Alabama big time. Catt's beloved LSU took out Clemson, Miami beat ND in a rematch of the Convicts vs the Catholics & Tennessee moved up the ranks with a win over Syracuse. Great start to a new season of exciting football.

Nope - with all the sports scholarships, product endorsements and out-right pay...they're no different than the pros now-days.

How about colleges actually working to endorse education over gladiator games?

FWIW: I hate pro sports too.

NIL is ruining college sports. That said, did watch my Tennessee Vols beat Syracuse.

NIL is letting some of these kids make money for themselves rather than everyone else. It’ll need to find a balance but college hasn’t been about education for the biggest prospects since the 80s. This is just legitimizing it.
it’s a mess but it’ll sort itself out.

And my Vols did look half decent against Syracuse, so we’ll see how the year goes!

I’m watching Notre Dame / Miami right now.  I just saw a one handed catch for a Miami touchdown.

^^He saved Beck from a terrible pick with that catch!^^

I like a good game and this imo was one.

btw, I'm not a big College football guy.  I like watching sometimes, but the way they rank teams and structure playoffs doesn't seem fair to me.  And watching powerhouse teams clobber weak teams to a pulp is a demonstration of poor sportsmanship.  But that's a result of the way they rank teams, so...back to point #1.

I'm much more of an NFL/MLB guy.

Just being transparent.

Opening weekend is full of hype like Ohio State v Texas.  It will settle in by week three.  I’m a Ducks fan from the days of Dan Fouts to present.  Right now baseball has my attention.  I like all sports except curling. Any sport than requires a broom is beyond me.  For those who follow track and field, watch the world championships next year because there are some up and comers that are amazing.

Well only four teams in the top 25 lost ground Michigan,Arizona State, SMU & Florida. But based on last year a two loss team can still make the playoffs. Even a three loss team could squeak in. Time will tell.

A lot of teams schedule cup cakes early in the season so they can pad their record.

Teams count on these wins to qualify for bowls later in the season.  There are a lot of teams that would not make no name bowls if they didn't secure cream puff wins in non-conference play.

The real tests lie in conference play.

Some merciless beatings yesterday 😳

I'm looking forward to Georgia vs Tenn next week.

Certainly don't expect a 70-0 game.

I agree with the polls, especially Ohio State being # 1

The small schools get a big pay day , usually about a million bucks

I enjoyed my Vols win over ETSU. I’m certain that ETSU is enjoying their $1 million + payday.

Also really enjoying UCLA’s 0 and 2 start. I know I’m being petty, but Nico who?

That is correct.  These games are scheduled for the paycheck.  Not for the competition.

We got lucky coach showed him the door, he’s not nearly as good a QB as he was rated. UCLA could lose all their games

I agree @TnRiver46, he just wasn’t all that. I was extremely proud to be a VFL (Vol For Life for those of you that might not know) when coach told him to not let the door knob hit him on his way out.

Nico is losing in front of 35,000 fans,  probably making a lot less money and is certainly paying more in state income tax.
