Ever feel ignored and then find out it’s a good thing?

Featured Replies

Three or for years ago I asked my wife ( pronounced “High Command”) can I take 2 weeks off and go fishing in Idaho in 2026.  She said sure.  I have been explaining all of the details of the trip and planning it for years.  I have saved up PTO and bought a new Vehicle to tow the boat.  I have talked about this trip a few times ( hundreds) but I am sure sure the glazed over look in her eyes means she might not listen as well as maybe she wanted too.

Well today I made a reservation for my campsite for 2 weeks.  My wife was like wait you are going to be gone two weeks!
it is kinda fun watching my wife recall in her mind all the times she said sure that sound good!

Try making it three weeks.

Congrats on getting that much closer to taking a trip

you've been planning and waiting on for a long time.

I surely know what that feels like, and it's good.

BTW High Command might really appreciate your reminder.

As she may be putting something together of her own during your absence.

We just never know . . . .

Have fun

It's common place around here.

I was gone for 3 weeks in November and she's leaving for NY day after Christmas.

Communication is key.

Enjoy your trip and be safe.

Gift her a spa weekend while you are gone. It will show you care about her and maybe make her happier. Can't hurt......

Good idea `

Now if I can find a spa that will do the Belgian Malinois and the white GSD at the same time,

I'm sure she'd be very happy.

That sounds like a good business idea. Maybe you should start a people/dog salon combo.....

I had the same thing happen with my wife only it was just three days. Then she accuses me of not listening.

I once had a hunting client that told me he hoped to get a record book moose, because the hunt had cost him a fortune in hunting jewelry.  I asked him what hunting jewelry was, and he said it was the expensive jewelry he always had to buy his wife, when he went on hunting trips.

I told him he was going about it all wrong.  I said that it's the thought, not the cost that he should consider.  I suggested he take the time to write some sweet thoughts, and poems, then have flowers delivered to his wife every day he was gone on the hunt.  Along  with each bouquet of flowers, he should include a card with one of the poems.  This would show her how much he loved and thought of her while he was away, for a fraction of the cost of hunting jewelry.

He looked at me, and said that I was crazy.  He laughed while pointing out I was an eternal batcher, trying to give marital advice.  He told me his wife had the jewelry appraised before she even gave him a ride to the airport.

My girlfriend at the time thought I had a great idea, but that relationship didn't last very long, so maybe he was right.

Bottom line Brett is you have the opportunity to visit one of the most gorgeous regions in the entire country and also experience some incredible fisheries.  This stacks up to be a trip of your life.  Bring lots of Hula Grubs in color 176.😉

Yeah, totally know what you mean @BassinBrett. The glazed over look is natural. Usually followed by an eye roll. Side eye in a social setting. I don't have birth name in my house and if I do it's used in a profanity riddled sentence. :)

So you can tell my relationship is strictly plutonic, but I might be exaggerating a bit ... JK ... HAHA

Have fun on your trip ... Post some pics!

I hope you’re going to Dworshak. That could be the trip of a lifetime.

I call that Selective Amnesia, and my Wife has it quite often.

Every year my wife and I take the camper away together for a week. She chooses the destination. I have been telling her now for over 5 months that she needs to book where ever she wants us to go. My vacations are booked already (4 nights lakeside first week of June in Pittsburg NH fly fishing and my NASCAR weekend at loudon NH). She has yet to book our trip. Works for me, I just know though that I'm going to have to hear her complain that when she goes to book in May, that all the spots she wanted to go are booked. ALl I'll say at that point is "told you so". 😇

And she says you don't listen to her, right?

I am lucky she is a good sport about the whole thing.  It is funny.  I have 2 weeks to fish in Idaho.  Dworshak reservoir and Cascade lake are on the list.  I feel like a should add another lake but can’t decide which one.  Maybe Prisst Lake? Any ideas?

My super limited opportunities arriving to a new lake in a new state have taught me that I need time there to figure things out.  Personally, I think a week at each is kinda perfect, those are both big water in my mind and time on each gives you an opportunity to capitalize on any short term weather advantages/changes.

Heck, I'd probably just camp out on Dworshak for the whole thing because there's not many places to go big baitin' for big smallies.

I booked a AK trip 14 months out..last January.   "ding!".

@Darth-Baiter first off Idaho is beautiful country. Secondly Dworshak Reservoir has massive smallmouth.  There are lot of other fisheries too but I don’t have enough time for them all.
