Anyone else noticed USPS deliveries are much slower now?

Featured Replies

I buy a lot of items, fishing lures, small car parts, cleaners, lubricants, polishes, etc, from online places. Lately my shipping from usps has been very slow. When tracking, many packages are making a US tour before being delivered. Following tracking, I had one package that left my home state to go across the country before returning, taking well over a week. I talked with my local post office and they said, almost everything is now going by ground. Many small packages are sent either on purpose or by error to a sorting facility, which could be a long way away and cause delays. To me, this seems like they are wasting time and fuel. Maybe that is why they keep increasing their prices? I believe they also had their personnel cut which could be part of the problem. Anyone else notice long delivery times?

For sure, things that used to take 4-5 days are now over a week...

Postal Service is kind of a mess, has been for years. Even the last Postmaster General (DeJoy) admitted he cannot fix it, and he tried for years. They are supposed to operate without annual appropriations, but they cannot. They've operated in the red for a long time now.

Do we really need mandatory 6 days/week mail service too? I'd argue definitely not. But it's mandated by federal law.

With the USPS threatening insolvency in the near future, it doesn’t surprise me that delivery times are long. Options are limited as well. I could write a book on my last dealings with FEDX after ordering my replacement keypads and brainbox for my Ranger. Due to the value, they required a signature and I went through multiple failed deliveries with them saying no one was home when I was here all day. I had to create an account to be able to put it on a “vacation hold” since it took so long, I was going out of town. Then I had to change delivery addresses and the process started all over. It was a nightmare especially since I was under the gun because we were pulling my boat to Florida.

The USPS has been hurt badly by the advent of technologies. All of the bills and mail that used to be mailed aren't anymore. That's a lot of stamps... That funding has never been made up. I am sure there is a lot of other factors involved too. IMHO the US Postal service is a lot like the military and has been a victim of changing times and lack of support.

They have really got worse since covid. I think now that they are their worse. I have a package, according to tracking that has been in one city for 7 days. Don't know if I will ever get it.

Ironically, I talked to our postmaster today. Last Sat. the missus and I drove to the local post office to pick up a package. On Sat. our post office is supposed to be open 9:30 AM to noon. Got there around 10 and the doors were locked, nobody home. Turns out they got our postmaster spread out so thin running around to different post offices in the area, she didn't even know nobody showed up for work last Sat. until I told her today. And then only because I had called in a complaint to their reginal center and she called me back to find out what I was complaining about.

It sure isn't like the good old days.

They aren’t the only slow ones. I belong to a delivery service that offers 2 day delivery. I had an order earlier this month that took 3 weeks.

This is why I try to avoid ordering anything on the internet all together. I still have to get some things I can’t find at a store but not many

This is me too. Brick and mortar in person if at all possible.

I noticed if i dont shovel the snow out from in front of my street mailbox for his postal truck to be able to get next to for an arm reach out the carrier wont get out of his truck and they bring my mail back to the post office,

On a more serious note I am receiving a lot of mail that isnt glued down and also received christmas cards from family that were opened.

Here's a chapter you can add to your book. We ordered a pair of META glasses at work (major university). We had three "attempted deliveries" that resulted in "unable to deliver/no one present". We pulled surveillance video and all three times the driver stopped in front of our building, took a photo of the front of our building without stepping out of his Fed Ex truck, and drove on. Now that is customer service.

USPS is awful. I ordered a rod on Feb 23, it was shipped Feb 24. I tracked it everyday and it went 3 weeks without a new scan. I received it on March 23. Fed Ex is just as bad. I ordered a couple of Mustang Pdf’s that were on sale. They were shipped separately and I received one of them in 3 days. A month later I hadn’t received the other one so I called Fed Ex. They had no idea where it was and told me to call the shipper for a refund.
