Urchin bait hook

Featured Replies

It is a very popular way to rig it. So popular you cannot find a frog hook anywhere online.

Youtube has some goofball popping out with "I found the greatest rigging!" video daily. I just laugh and move on by. Fad city

Zona has a video out where he talks about using the frog hooks on the urchin baits.

I kept my frog hooks from worn out frogs thinking someday I'll find a use for them . I just dont see myself throwing an urchin soon.

Facts. After Christie won the last BASS derby, and said he used a 2/0 frog hook, they are non-existant. Especially since Trokar is the only one I can find that makes a 2/0.

I’ve got a couple packages of TK250 2/0 frog hooks - the bidding will start at $100,000. Will consider trades for a new Z519.

I wonder what size hook the Stanley ribbit uses. I've got a few of those somewhere .

What about the new core tackle dice rig? Out of stock in most places, but they have a #1 and a 3/0 hook option?

@scaleface - send them my way then. I did the same with some older frogs and I threw an urchin today for the first time. Can’t say I’m going to love it, but I can see the potential. Need to dig through the old frogs if there are some hooks to salvage since I only grabbed one today.

I have been fishing the hag with a 1/0 treble, I got some of the core dice rig hooks 3/0 and tried it on a moeba I ended up missing a few hook sets and lost a nice fish at the boat. I will have to try them on the hags for a true comparison but have definitely had more success with the treble.

Good to know…if now you could find an urchin bait…

This " urchin " bait made me realize that bass are gullible and will bite anything 😁

@Smirak TW has the porcupine in stock. I just got two packs to try.

Danke!

I've tried every popular hooking method. A good old EWG or Octopus has been far and away the best. Content creators and marketers are what's making it complicated for folks.

I found some Gamakatsu 4/0 frog hooks and used them they worked great for me. If you can find the the Hags Prickly Pear they retail for about $7. I found them at a local Atwoods and are very durable. They were using them this weekend on Grand at the MLF event.

Same. I saw they got some in stock and was like "fiiiiiiiine I guess I'll finally try these things".

Is everyone using trebles or can I get away with a wacky hook?

Big wacky hook was the "original" way of rigging before the nonsense took over; 4/0 octopus hook or something.

Of course I haven't used any method yet, but to me, the frog hook looks best,

You got me too…ordered 4 hags, 2 skinny bear and believe it or not, a coike fish M (squash lemon) was on the site so I got it as well. A couple of different types of hooks and some free rig weights. All in was just shy of $100 because it’s my first purchase from them, so I got 10% off new customer…

I'm using these run into the wire hole of the bait and then running a treble through the hold of the weight. Makes it pretty tough for the fish to toss them and seems to hook up well. Pretty sure I caught a new PB green sunfish on an urchin yesterday that had the whole thing in it's mouth.
