Got the boat out sat. for the first time this year. Had my best opening day that I can remember. 16.75"lm, 16.5" & 16.25" sm. 2 bigger ones on a chatterbait. Went to another lk. on sun, 6 lm 7pike, (all legals) . Water temps from 44 to 50 degrees. All fish on sun. on custom bladed jig with that dang red skirt. It was awesome...

If it feels good, put it on a rod and use it. Unless you like to / have time to take a reel apart then do that. It's a $25 reel. After all, what do you do with the extra parts after you put it back together?

You can't call losing 26 jigs in one day if the sack got bounced out of the boat..? I don't even own 26 jigs, that would wipe me out. ? By the way, Allen, how is that roto - mold (soft plastics) working for you ?

I forgot to mention that my opinion is for surface lures only. It changes with sub-surface baits...

Fun topic. My decision on baits would be very different if I fished lakes that bass were at the top of the food chain. My collection would be smaller but of higher quality. Fortunately, I fish where pike love them some bass baits, so I might lose a bait or two during the season. And that can happen on any cast. Fishing for 50 yrs., your collection gets pretty large if you only buy a couple hard baits a year. So I have a mish - mash of brands with no favorite brand. Maybe I am missing out not fishing a $30 popper, but I like my chug bugs and pop R. I refuse to believe that one surface bait, would out - fish any other bait. (pop r vs. pop max for example). Cheap lures will catch fish if you get it in front of them. That is WAY more important than throwing expensive baits where you won't get bit. Oh, I guess if I had to pick one, Strike King .

I'm out for 3 weeks starting today. Although we could stay 6' away from each other, we are not essential, so here I sit. About a month from taking the boat out. Dang! I'll be alright....everyone stay safe.

I have a few twitch baits, but like Tom says - you have to swap out the hooks.

I just write 1 line for each trip. Lake and fish caught. In the spring and late fall, i'll add water temp. Sometimes weather, (windy! or rain) or a bait that did the damage. So not much, but enough for me. I aint writin a book...

I found 2 big wags in my old plastic bin. Cut / glue tail vertical for a great bladed jig trailer.

My old boat's locker holds only 7 footers. I have 2 telescoping 7' 6" rods . Not the best, but it works (sorta).
