Why buy new. The 14ft Lund pic i posted earlier was $900. I bought a new base model Helix 5 for under $200 a new transom mount TM and a remanufactured bow mount TM. For another $400. Minus the battery and registration I'm all in for $1500. My only advice would be to scan craigslist every day and have cash on hand. The good deals disappear quick.

If the hull and motor check out on a 30 year old boat and you are comfortable with the price, do it. Take note, that boat doesn't have a trolling motor and if I had to guess, no trolling motor batteries. To purchase a 24v motor and batteries new, you're looking at another couple grand

On that same note. 2 stroke motors are made to run. They are much happier balls out than idling around

Boat is out most every weekend from ice out to ice up. I put on 70-100 hours a year. I have my 2 stroke ProXS serviced at the dealer annually for maintenance/winterization. I don't want to risk screwing up a $18k engine. I also have a 1960's era Evinrude and an early 70's Johnson I service myself. Dealer charges 2 hours labor and materials. Spark plugs get changed every 100 hours and the NGK plugs that Mercury uses aren't cheap. Best price on Optimax DFI oil is around $30 a gallon but can be as high as $50. I go thru about 3-4 gallons annually. I don't spend close to $700 on maintenance. Closer to $500. As far as the 2 old motors, If I spend $50 for maintenance annually on both, that's a lot.

Riddle me this. 500hrs could potentially be 10 years of running by a weekend warrior in the northern states. Would you really allow a piece of machinery run that long without someone even looking at it? I bet a damaged lower unit, from a torn shaft seal from fishing line wouldn't be covered.

If you dont have Link, the motor needs to be deployed. The gps is in the head, not the remote.

Why do you need to access it? Even if it to just see the status lights, all I have to do is open the locker. I have a 3 bank charger and 2 TM batteries installed under the rod locker. A single bank charger that I installed and a 3rd TM battery in one of the port lockers.(I upgraded from 24v to 36v TM) The starting battery is at the stern in the floor with the remote oil tank. I have connected both the chargers under the deck, to a single extension cord and have the plug mounted in the deck with one of the adapters in the link I posted. One thing I know about Lund is they really put thought into the storage/layout of all their boats. Doesn't matter if it's a Rebel the ProV or the Baron. They utilize every inch of space to make life easier on the fisherman. I'm not familiar with the ins and outs of the Rebel, but I'd bet there are multiple options for mounting without losing needed space

Unfortunately, many of us on the forums are closed minded and believe the bass is some kind of sacred animal. I got news for you. It's not. People harvest fish every day, including bass. Seems to me a 10%-20% mortality rate in a tournament is better than a 100% mortality rate to the frying pan. I harvest bass for the deep fryer. I do not harvest them on waters I fish for money...but other people do. It is what it is. If the pro's aren't breaking any laws or tournament regulations I guess you just have to deal with it. As far as fizzing fish. Every fish I have caught deeper than 15ft fares much better in the livewell if it is fizzed. I'm not just talking bass. It applies for all fish.

There are more than a few enhancements and IMO they are worth the expense.

Funny you mention the snake. 2 weeks ago I volunteered to teach kids how to cast fishing rods. The pond had a floating golf green that the kids were trying to hit with their plugs. After 4 hours of being on the edge of the bank showing the kids technique and untangling lines, one of the kids get his line caught in some reeds. I get the line out and a snake jumps out of the reeds and into the pond. It was non poisonous. Kinda creepy that it I was standing a foot away from the snake for so long, and had no idea it was there. Snake swam across the pond and found itself another set of reeds to hide in.

Cut yourself (3) 16"x16" squares out of plywood. Screw them together with some 2" deck screws. Get a 3" hole saw and cut out the middle.

I watched 3 bluegills and a turtle in a pond devour an unidentifiable pastry yesterday...fascinating.
