  5. I have days where I want to “big bass hunt”, and I have spots too where you know “ that’s where the big ones are”. I get close, shut off all electronics, pull the trolling motor. Then pole in from there. I move around in those spots and stick pin in. I don’t fish like that all the time though, I just get the urg or I think the weather is right. I don't fish during spawning , not against it, just my preference. I pick on them enough the rest of the year… I give them a little privacy…..to do their thing. Use that time to do maintenance on boat and gear. i enjoy fishing normal or thr regular way trolling along work worms or creatures a long the banks or, working hard baits out in more open waters.
  6. The weather has been brutal this year. glad your ok
  7. I leave until it starts to fall off, I’m getting ready to shrink my rods that have cork.
  8. I talked to an older man, 102 years old. He told me they took long handled rakes. They opened up a place in the pads and weeds, come back in a few days. They used real long cane poles, hooked live bait between the tail the top of the back. Lower them down on a bobber in the cleared out places. He said “ that’s how we caught them back in the day”
  9. Yep I agree with @Alex from GA , switch to a different style of fishing. You gotta match the way the boat being run. I like a wobble head jig with a creature bait, it’s more kinda of a swim bait kinda thing, you can still bounce off the bottom, just faster paced.
  10. I just use my fish finder/ depth finder. I played with a pool thermometer and the thermocline, it can get mind boggling. I was intrigued when a lake turned over.
  11. I use a spinning rig for night fishing, I can stop the line close the pole and hook my finger on the line. I can feel the bite as well as watching the line.
  12. Not a happy camper, for sure.
  13. I think It’ll hit blue gill again, not right away, but it will want to eat. There is some posts on here about getting broke off and re-catching the same fish and getting the rigs back. Now falling on top of her….. that probably freaked her out …hahaha. I can’t counts the times I’ve falling in bank/wade fishing. Falling in, is not so bad… but I hate loosing the fish too.
  14. They are still there just moving around a bit, looking for food. They are used to laying in an eddy or behind some structure waiting for the current to bring the food by them. Like @TnRiver46said fish the structures, docks kinda thing. How swift is the current normally, are ya fishing from a boat, or bank/ wading?
  15. Berkeley X9 is what I use.
  16. I like using shorter rods when creek and wade fishing, where casting room is an issue.
  17. Congratulations!!! Never had kids, have a lot of nieces and nephews. I’m the cool uncle….hahaha.
  18. I just saw shrink wrap for rod handles on another post…. Didn’t want to highjack, it so thought start another one. I’ve never seen it, is it kind sticky like racketball grip or what? What it’s like when it wet? …….don’t want to cast my rig off in the lake. Is one brand better than another? Are there any down side to using it? Thanks for any input.

Hello from the Sunshine State of Florida
  20. I have days that I big bass hunt and days that I just fish, but I’m always scouting out where the big ones might be hiding. I use the same bait, I think of not as much what I’m fish with , but where. The places less traveled, the little cove, creek mouth, bunch of cover. I “go ninja mode” when approaching, all electronics off, trolling up, and push pole in. Put my stick pins in, then just “sit a spell” then systematically work the area, when I change baits I wait a little while between fishing again. It’s a slow process.

  22. RIP, Miss Tina
  23. I’ve only have two rigs with braid on them, pitching rig and my dock rig, they have X9 on them….. So far it seems the quietest, the noise is a thing with me.
  24. I really don’t have a favorite, as long as it silver sides, with blue or black top. I’ve had expensive ones to cheap ones. They just catch fish, from when your twitch, twitch pause, to hard pulls where you’re splashing over the trees. When they are hitting them it sure is fun.
  25. I start out with a 7 1/2” ribbon tail worm, usually June bug or watermelon pearl. Than a creature or tube craw okeechobee color.
