  1. http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/116124-frog-rods/ Here is a recent discussion of rods and people opinions for frogging.
  2. x2 My biggest musky shown was on 7' Medium/Fast Triumph. I do have dedicated set ups for Musky. Don't go bananas on gear unless you want to become an avid musky guy. St. Croix Premier Musky 7'6 MH/Fast is what I use to throw 75% of my musky stuff. I have a Curado 300DSV for that rod, but I also have an Abu C4 when I throw really big blade lures or bulldogs.
  3. I fish a Mojo 7' MH/Fast action rod on my hollowbody frogs. I have no problem getting them out of the thickest junk. Not all power ratings and actions are equal across the manufacturers of rods. Not to say a Heavy/Fast rod wont work for you, but you'll get better casting from a MH/F so I'd be really certain that's the way you want to go. You may end up getting it and really not liking it. But...you could always turn that into a jig rod if it didn't work out. Just my $.02. I fish Hollowbody frogs a lot....
  4. Take deep abdominal breaths. Count to ten........ feel better? To the OP, no experience with the rod. But anytime I look at a new rod I got to a store to feel it out first. I couldn't buy any rod no matter the price point without handling it first. If that's not an option for you, its your gamble. Maybe someone who has one will chime in but Okuma isn't a very popular brand by the majority.
  5. Ever see the movie Aliens? They like bass too.
  6. If you're not in rock or wood, go with braid. Add a leader if you'd like. My $.02
  7. Traveler, why don't you just order online? I keep a pair of pliers and cutters on my waist at all times. I have a Rapala brand pliers that came with a nice little waist sheath. I took the split ring pliers out and put in cutters instead. I learned the hard way when I had a 3.5lb bass on one treble and the other treble attached to two of my fingers. Never again will I not have cutters with me.
  8. Thanks. I did not know that so I will look.
  9. They are the ones on the Ranger factory seats. My seats are in great shape, just don't use them as I don't ever sit when I fish. I'd have no idea of the ones you mentioned.
  10. I'll be up there myself too as long as the rain isn't going to be really bad. Not looking so hot as of now. I'll be throwing jerkbaits, flukes, jig, and a drop shot. I may have to sneak in a square bill or lipless. I struggle with the "slow" concept of fishing...I might have ADD.
  11. There are a millions topics on this. Search "drop shot" and grab a pen and paper. The rod you have will work just fine. A 2500 series spinning reel is ideal with line in the 4-10 lb range. Some guys like pure fluoro, others like braid/flouro combo, and some like straight braid. I think some trial and error will answer yourself. Palomar knot on the hook and the weight.
  12. Does anyone know if the pedestal seats that BPS sells will fit in a Ranger R73? I am under the assumption that it is pretty universal but you never know. If not I can call BPS to ask. Figured some of you knowledgeable folk would know.
  13. The Salmon Shop on Northwest Highway in Palatine, IL did a replacement on mine. Owners name is Jimmy. It took a while to get it back but he did on ok job from what I can tell. I'm not a rod smith so I wouldn't really know what is great work and what's not. I have a new guide that is straight so that's all I care about.
  14. These Veritas problems seem to be popping up a lot lately. I don't fish them but have looked at them in consideration. What are the warranties on these rods?
  15. I fish Wisconsin mostly and all I throw isgill and perch patterns about 90% of the time. I ordered Salsa and New Gill in the flip n swim jigs. Now I have to search through my trailer possibilities to see what looks delicious.
  16. I just purchased a few of these. Not sure if I'll get them before Friday but I hope so. Would love to give them a whirl this weekend up North. Can't wait!
  17. I am forcing myself to drop shot this year so in the off season, I picked up a Shimano Ci4 2500 and put it on a Croix Rage 6'9 MLXF. It feels really great. Originally had planned on a LTB but I couldn't drop the coin for it. Perhaps down the road if I decide to upgrade. I'll be out this weekend for the Wisconsin opener. Hopefully we do well.
  18. Spinnerbait with large Colorado blades. Gold/Chartreuse. Anything that will displace a lot of water. If you start flipping, go dark. Black/blue or Junebug colors. Dynamite when all else fails.
  19. Croix Mojo, 6'8" M/XF. $100. If you got the coin the Avid would be great too.
  20. I don't really go out of my way to catch panfish but I've also never sat on a nice school of crappies and had fun with my ultralight. Every year up at my place in Wisconsin we pull out a HUGE slab or 2 14"-16" but they are always solo and caught while fishing for bass. I would definitely dedicate a few hours of my fishing day if I knew I'd consistently catch some monster panfish. Our bluegill are all stunted too, 3"-6" is all I see and a loner perch here and there. I'm heading up to Wisconsin if the weather holds out for us this coming weekend. Should be able to find some prespawn fatties I hope. Glad to hear you broke in the new boat!
  21. That's a pretty d**n good day of fishing. I'll take 38 anytime.
  22. Try a Rage Shad or Rage Toad. I use 5/0 ewg or superline 1/8th oz.
  23. Wow, nice score!
  24. I don't have a Core 50 but I do have a Chronarch 50E that I'm falling in love with fast. I haven't had it very long but it feels and performs great so far and I can only imagine the Core is that much better. So you can look at the chronarch too if you're not willing to shell out the additional cash.
