  1. If money is no option then probably the Hobie but I feel they are a bit too pricey for a kayak. I've heard great things about the Atak but I've been really impressed with the new Bonafide. I like the fact that the Bonafide is designed and made by the owner of YakAttack. I know it's not a pedal system but it looks like it has a lot to offer for a very affordable price which allows plenty for adding accessories like fish finder, power pole and trolling motor. A trolling motor would make up for it not being a pedal drive.
  2. Yuck. I finished 70th in our group. Terrible start but still better than last year since I think I forgot to pick a team the first tourney.
  3. I haven’t but have been following them for a while. Have heard nothing but great things so far. The top top of my upgrade list so far is: NuCanue Flint Bonafide SS127 Native Titan 10.5
  4. They're ripping people off in this so-called sale. The retail price for that unit has been $399 and for some reason it is now $429.
  5. Z-man Original Chatterbait is all I need.
  6. I actually just got an box in the mail from Tackle Warehouse about an hour ago. Had a gift card from Christmas to spend and of course spent some extra in order to get the free shipping. I usually put an order in this time of year every year to replenish tackle and to try out some new stuff I learned over the winter.
  7. Bait and switch. Very old sales tactic. Many businesses will advertise a loss leader item that they actually lose money on but have very limited quantity, like only one or two, then they up sell you to a similar item that has a lot more margin in the price. Sales 101.
  8. I remember ice fishing there as a child and I took my kayak on it last summer but no luck with bass. I caught one trout and snagged two carp on my jerk bait. Those were fun to catch. It seems like a nice pond that is fairly deep but never hear much of people catching bass. I think most people who fish it are targeting trout. I agree that there is very little info about it. My brother in law use to live close to it and fished it a few times last year and only managed to catch a couple small bass. I may try it again one more time this year but if I don't catch any bass of size after that I'll crossing that one off my list of places to go. I fish Lake Delhi, a local sportsman's pond and the Mississippi mostly. All other places are well over an hour for me if not over two hours. Last year I tried Lost Grove by Eldridge and would like to fish it again this year. I would also like to try Belva Deer and Brushy Creek sometime.
  9. Welcome back to Iowa. I can only assume you're itching to get out on open water again after this winter. The snow storm coming in today will not help. I live by Dubuque and though I've been on the reservoir boating before I have never fished MacBride before. I'm hoping to fish it this summer and even participate in the kayak tourney this year. You've got some lofty goals there. The spotted bass may be obtainable but I'm not sure about the large mouth one. Would most likely have to be caught in a farm pond or something like that.
  10. I think you're right. It was like a later showing or something. I wish they would keep doing that.
  11. Absolutely. I still enjoy watching other fishing shows but they are no where close to what MLF offers. The show should really be on a major network. It's more entertaining for a larger audience.
  12. He gets me laughing often. Really enjoy watching him and I liked watching Lefebre too.
  13. Many, many fishermen do not realize this. There are also those on the opposite end of the spectrum that think taking as much as they want from a body of water doesn't hurt.
  14. Being a kayak fisherman I like to watch videos from Greg Blanchard and Chad Hoover. Being from NE Iowa and fishing both Iowa and Minnesota I really love watching Another Fishing Show. I just recently found them on YouTube and they are my new favorite show. They are two friends from Minnesota who have some fun doing a different types of fishing and meeting people. The one guy is a videographer and has done video for a lot of other show so he knows a bunch of professionals so he has interviews with them. He's done camera work for MLF.
  15. A MHF rod will serve you fine for just about any application. When I wanted a do-anything rod I went with a 7ft Berkley Lightning Shock Rod and a Pflueger President spinning reel. It's a great all around pole for just about any type of fishing. I used it for fishing on the Mississippi where you can catch any number of species ranging from under a pound to over 20. I also used it trout fishing and worked just fine. Obviously there are better rods for each technique, which I also have, but for keeping one in the truck for anything I would recommend a MHF. If not that then a MF rod will work fine too.
  16. I always get excited to go to Cabelas but never buy anything. It's never worth it since prices are never competitive unless you find some clearance. I'd rather buy from Tackle Warehouse or FFO.
  17. I can barely remember the times I've lost a fish or lure to my line breaking off. I must not be as forceful as some. Last time it happened was with a northern coming out of the water to grab my lure at the boat. Was pretty funny.
  18. The fishing is great here though. I can't live in the south, I need my seasons even though winter sucks.
  19. Mississippi River. It has everything except where I live I have to deal with ice.
  20. Did you get the DieZel ones? I have never used them so I don't know how well they'll work. I just know the plastic lasts longer.
  21. I used the Yamamoto Senko Swim bait as a trailer. Worked great but the don't last long at all. I went through a lot of bags last year. I'm going to try Z-Man's this year with their ElaZtech plastic.
  22. Caught my personal best largemouth of 4-14 last May on a black and blue Chatterbait. I also caught my personal best smallmouth of 4-8 last September on the same lure. Love that lure.
  23. Here's a link to it which has the dimensions. https://www.yakattack.us/CLB_1001_p/clb-1001.htm
  24. A 7ft MHF rod will cover most types of fishing. The Berkley Lightning Rod Shock is a nice affordable model.
  25. Isn't the price difference about $700 between the two? I've always felt Hobies were really overpriced.
