Why don’t you say you don’t want to fish.
MRI results: not a rupture. A complete tare and separation. Reattachment surgery next week. Let’s go. Thanks for the kind words guys.

I agree with Gussy.

What has changed over the past 3-4 years? Any game changers in gear, baits, or techniques?
YouTube is packed with redundant information. Strolling/Jig and Minnow has become a major player. The spinnerbait is making a comeback. Holding a fish away from your body when photographed no longer doubles its size.

I appreciate you Craig. Thanks for information and I hope you rehab quickly. Doug

Why don’t you say you don’t want to fish.
Well I’m in a pickle. I was lifting weights at the gym and while doing preacher curls I felt a pop. Lo and behold, I ruptured my distal tendon on my right arm. The bicep is now balled up and I have extensive bruising and hematoma. I’m having an MRI Wednesday to determine what surgical method will be employed to correct it. I can’t throw batting practice or set the hook. It could be worse.

How many baitcast reels below 6.0:1 do you own?
Four. All are dedicated to crankbaits.

Considering switching out Shimano for lews
I don’t buy reels based on feelings. It’s performance that rules.

Abu Garcia Revo SX Voltiq
For those who buy the reel, I have one word: Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

drop shot...
Depends on the body of water. Some require one combo and others will require two.

reel decision help
For your 5XD-6XD combo, look at a Shimano Scorpion MD 200 on Digitaka. 159 bucks makes this a contender.

Is a Dobyns Sierra a upgrade from a Daiwa Tatula XT?
Daiwa makes a nice rod but they have a design flaw. Casting rods run 8 guides and every model I’ve owned had spots that the line came into contact with the blank under stress. All my Dobyns run 9 guides and no line contact. Better balance makes the Sierra an upgrade.

My buddy is genuinely trying to argue that VMC/Mustad are anywhere near the quality/sharpness of Gammy/Owner
The hooks today are so good compared to yesteryear. I prefer hooks with conical points or chemically sharpened. It’s more about the hook design rather than a specific manufacturer. With that, I have hooks by Mustad, Owner, Gamakatsu, Hyabusa, Decoy, BKK, VMC, Ryugi, Robo Worm and 6th Sense. They each have a design that stands out and each are high quality.

Frog and flipping rod
Save up and get a Dobyns Champion 736. That model is special.

Natural or Synthetic Skirt for Jigs
There are scenarios for both. I like Sieberts living rubber jigs a lot. I also like silicone. Jigs with a mix of both are unique and allow that movement and vibrancy in color patterns.

Show Off Your Work!
That color scheme would be killer in my region. Mid and upper Columbia River smallmouth would crush it Allen.

First Worm Rod
Being in tune with your rig and what bites feel like will improve your worm fishing. Be the worm.

Tell us about a time a bait you struggle with clicked for you!
The Dark Sleeper for sure. It didn’t take long. I started off fishing it like a football jig with drags and stops. I caught a couple. When I fished it like a wobble head and crawled it non stop, the light bulb lit up. It catches a better grade of fish me.

If you could live anywhere...
I’m looking seriously at moving to Kootenai County, Idaho for a number of reasons. The fishing is among them.

Reel size for swim jigs and chatter/spinnerbaits
I’m running a Curado 150 with 15 Floro for the spinnerbaits and a Zillion for the bladed jig with 17 Floro.
