Welcher just got a big SMB flipping a jig into a logjam in raging current, had to lay down to free the fish and still got it !

It was the final day when he won at Conroe, his motor wouldn’t start so he just dragged a jig around where he was and caught a monster bag to come from way behind and win

That would be the fish of the year nearly every year for me

I don’t know of any guides up there but I could be wrong, probably a few that troll for lake trout. You can purchase live trout that smallies will chew up at Hampton trout farm . There are some big sleeper LM in there too. Winter is better fishing but summer can be good, it’s so high in the mtns it could still be very early post spawn. Wind is always limiting factor, it gets wild at times and you can’t get back to your truck. It’s the definition of a microclimate yes Holston is perfect for kayak

Kingsport??? Hit watauga lake, there are some 6s in there too…… plenty of 3-4 lbers in the Holston river right thru Kingsport as well

Good thing about TN? Smallmouth indeed live in all lakes, rivers, and streams For the Midwest I would try fishing the bank of monster lakes like @softwateronly or borrowing a canoe/kayak and floating something. You can buy a canoe for the price of a rod/reel combo anymore
