  1. Hello and welcome to the forum. Since you have never used a baitcaster before I would remove the braid and put some cheap monofilament on it. You will be backlashing some and probably have to cut the line to remove and straighten it out. That gets expensive with braid.
  2. Hello and welcome to the forum.
  3. I also use the Gamma offset round bend hooks. I usually go with a 4/0 size. Trick Worms aren't thick enough to require an EWG hook.

  5. Hello and welcome to the forum.
  6. I am happy with the Lews reels I have now. If I was going for a new it would probably be the Shimano Curado K. For me I don't want or need super high end equipment.
  7. Glad this is working out the way you wanted it to. One thing to think about is putting some kind of safety railing around the pier. It might make it a little tougher for fishing but if it keeps a child from falling in the water it would be worth it.
  8. Glad you came out okay. I have been considering buy inflatable PFDs. I don't like the fact they won't put a D ring on them to hook the kill switch to. I always wear my standard PFD when the outboard motor is running but they are too hot to wear while fishing. Seems like changing from one to another would be a lot of trouble. I will figure something out someday. We have local hunting and fishing show here. A lot of times the host is only wearing an inflatable pack on his belt.
  9. I have two Daiwa reels in the 2500 size I use most of the time. Also have two Lews reels in the 2000 size I use occasionally. I have never tried any other sizes.
  10. Congratulations. It will be 43 for us in September. I don't know how she has put up with me all these years but I'm glad she did.
  11. I use 12# Sufix Siege for all moving baits and it has been great for me. I only use floro for T rigs and jigs.
  12. It depends on the type of worm. For a 6" Zoom U Tail I will use 2/0 hook. For a 7.5" Culprit worm I use a 3/0 or 4/0 hook. I use a 5/0 for a Mag II worm. For the Zoom Ol Monster I use a 5/0 EWG hook.
  13. I am using Lews and Shimano reels. All the parts are original. I have never tried to get carbontex drag washers. I may have to check in to them.
  14. I am with you. I like the darker more traditional colors for my rods and reels. I won't buy any of the bright flashy color rods and reels.
  15. The most I have ever paid for a rod was around $75.00. It is a BPS Pro Qualifier rod I bought when they were on clearance sale. My most expensive reel is a Lews BB1 at $159.00. Most of my rods and reels are older models. My newest rods are seven years old. All of my rods are either BPS or Cabelas brand and they work very well for me.
  16. When cleaning my reels I have always oiled the drag assembly and not had any problems. I know a lot of you love Cals drag grease. Will it matter if I use some other reel grease on the drag washers instead of Cals.? Sorry if this is a dumb question.
  17. Several years ago I was putting everything away after a day of fishing. A couple pulled up beside me to put there stuff away. I commented to him he had a really nice looking boat. It was fiberglass and had Bass Tracker on it. I told him I had never seen a fiberglass Bass Tracker before. I believe he said it a late 80s model and thought the next year was when the changed over to Nitro.

  22. I try to only have four setups on deck at a time. 1 Crankbaits. 2 spinnerbait. 3 A couple rods for Texas rigged soft plastics or a jig. When these don't work I put some of them away and get out the spinning rods for shaky heads, trick worms, or other finesse bait.
  23. I didn't order a BPS master catalog but they sent me one back in late January or early February.

  25. I always loved watching his shows. We will never have another one like him.
