What to do with wet lures?
When in my boat I just toss them on the deck out of my way. After I get home I put them back where they belong. When in someone else’s boat I drop them next to my tackle bag. When the trip is over I put them in the bag on top of the he boxes. When I get home and empty the bag, I put them where the belong and store them in the boat bait compartment.

Extending the life of a Keitech
What is its purpose? Would a small piece of wire do the same job? This is a sample of what I am talking about. The other thing is the bait gets thrown if the fish jumps.

Extending the life of a Keitech
Today I got into a mix of spotted bass and smallmouth. I was using the Keitech swing impact fat in 2.8 with a dirty jigs 1/8 oz guppy head. It took 8 baits to land 15 fish. I love them but the little buggers are fragile. Do any of you have a hack to extend their life?

tackle shops not willing to order items, is this the new normal?
Many of the suppliers don’t cater to small businesses very well. The local shop that I use has several suppliers who won’t honor an order unless it exceeds $1000. He usually orders twice a year. So for those things I really want I have to plan ahead or order online.

Battery question
I had all kinds of trouble with units killing batteries. At first it was Lowrance hds units. Later I switched to Humminbird Solix units and the same thing happened. I was using 2 series 31 agm batteries parallel and only having the sonar units hooked to them. I charged the batteries with an onboard unit after every trip. Within 11 months they killed both batteries grave yard dead. They were replaced and 11 months later those were dead. I now have a 100 ah lithium hooked to them and all has been good for over a year. I am mentioning this only as a heads up to pay careful attention to the batteries.

Jigs that don’t work for you…
I can only speak for local conditions. Around here color often plays an important role in catching fish. One of my regular fishing buddies and I typically start with different types of baits. If one of us catches a couple we stop and regroup. Often we wind up with the same bait in different colors tied on 4 setups. We each use different colors until we find out what is working best. Then both use it as long as it produces. At the end of our smallmouth Ned fishing a TRD new money was way out producing every other color. I had 3 colors tied on and new money was all I could get fish on. It was the same for my partner.

Jigs that don’t work for you…
Not them. One of the guys for whom I make jigs is a black/ blue nut and gets them. I might part with the jigs that Tom doesn’t consider to be pb&j.

Boat trailer rollers - can they become mis-aligned ? How to fix/recalibrate them ?
You might want to take and record some measurements of the different rollers.

Assembling my own jigs?
Since I pour my own and buy hooks by the thousand my cost goes somewhat like this; hook $.25, 2 skirt tabs $.40, lead and paint inconsequential, time irrelevant so $.65-70 per jig plus I pour my own trailers for $.0675 each. That’s why I do my own.

For me it is black/blue and pb&j. I’ve never caught a single one on either of them. What is your jig color that won’t work?

BFS Ned Rig Rod
I have 2 bc Ned rods. One is a ml Gloomis 6’9” Bronze back the other one is a 7’6” Ark rod that was mislabeled that I got for a song from the company owners so I don’t know what it actually is. They got the job by the process of elimination. I took every bc rod that I thought might cast a Ned and one by one I mounted my reel of choice and tied on a 3/32 oz head containing a TRD. I made several casts in the yard and those two were the best. I actually prefer spinning for Ned but made the switch to avoid shoulder surgery. So far it’s working.

Selling my tackle
You might consider a flea market booth. That way you don’t even have to interact with the buyers. When we down sized our house my wife had way too much stuff to deal with so she rented a booth. It worked out well for her.

Assembling my own jigs?
Save the weedguard for last so it won’t be in your way while putting on the skirt material.

Mustad went down hill. Lots of builders have quit using them in favor of Eagle Claw, VMC and Victory. I haven’t bought any Mustad for several years.

Favorite jig colors
My favorite is brown living rubber but I catch a lot of fish on Jewell Pee Wee jigs in Basswhacker, Hail Mary and First Down. https://jewelbait.com/shop/details/jigs/pee-wee-football-jig-skirted

Rate your Water
My main lake is 50000 acres with 1000 miles of shoreline. It used to be great but with tournaments all the time with up to 500 boats it is becoming hard to catch quality fish. The other one is smaller only 26000 acres but a lot less pressure and a good smallmouth population.

Sawzall
I have an electric one and a battery powered one. The battery one is good for small jobs where I don't have electricity. The electric one just keeps sawing.

Cheap jigs at walmart
If you buy very many jigs with a silicone band holding the skirt, it’s a good idea to either thread or wire tie them because the bands will rot and fall off.
