  1. Actually learned to drop-shot from this site several years ago. An extremely effective method in clear water. Been using the same artillery since day 1. # 1 mustad wide gap drop-shot hook, 1/8 tungsten cylinder weight, 8# flouro leader, med light rod fast on 2500 spinning...... nose hooked. You don't have to do to much to catch fish, just keep slight tension, dead stick, drag slowly. Finesse worms, Robo worms and even Zoom lizards. I know many here like to wacky hook but I've had great success with nose hook and hookup ratio has been great.
  2. Fishing requests are only occasional. It's the hunting ! We live 1/2 mile off a state maintained road " dead end " against National Forest. Every year as turkey and deer season approaches my phone rings. 😂 The other issue is, If you let someone hunt they become obsessed and claim areas and in recent history even got aggressive towards other hunters. Wife cleaned house several years ago and we're down to only 2 hunters but the calls still come in.
  3. Take a picture with your phone at a distance and then edit the photo, make it larger and save. Then hit Add files " below " Works every time for me. Yes we need pics. Lol
  4. Welcome to the site
  5. I've yet to master casting into the wind with a bait caster. A side cast helps but doesn't eliminate the occasional birds nest.
  6. I don't buy something just because it's on sale and I don't sit around and wait for a sale. Most of what I buy these days are wants and not needs and never know when that desire is going to hit.
  7. I have 18 rods and reels. If all of them were $1000+ combos, I'd be working part-time instead of retired. Logic tells me that this would put less fish in the boat. 😁
  8. I've always stayed around $100 - $150 for a rod, no complaints. Way better rods and way more options today compared to yesteryear.
  9. After fishing in the rain I always open all storage compartments in the boat and tackle box and run a large dehumidifier in the garage. Rusted baits and hooks get tossed. I will polish the blades on a spinnerbait though.
  10. You can still get the manual mowers for under a $100. Most are 14" - 18" cut, not much. If I remember correctly, Tall grass required a running start and jamming would occur. My youngest daughter bought a Green works electric push mower and loves it.
  11. I've ordered over a dozen rods from Amazon and never had to return one, yes surprisingly. But can't overlook their return policy, stress free.
  12. Yes. Use to push one around in the late 60's . Problem is we had big dogs and I'd fly through the mounds and got covered in do-do 😳
  13. I personally would never leave my fishing equipment outside overnight. Theft is not an issue in my driveway but we have lots of night critters.
  14. Sounds like it's been quite the ride up there, very inconvenient. Glad to hear that restoration is happening and the Lund is anticipating a launch. Stay safe
  15. I use these on moving baits, casting gear. Never with plastics. I have a favorite bait caster that I may throw a spinnerbait on then switch to a crank bait or vibrating jig, saves time.
  16. It was a gold Shimano Bantam from the 70's, my 1st caster lost in a boat flip 🙃
  17. Doug Hannon is the first to come to mind. Modern day the nod goes to a youngster - Damian Thao.
  18. I live in the mountains with a very small yard. Takes less than an hour to weed eat and push mow so never behind with that. I simply don't like being behind on any obligation, just the way I'm wired. Being that I'm retired, I have no excuses.
  19. I trim all skirts just behind the hook. Jigs, spinnerbaits and buzz baits.
  20. Follow ❓ I'm not sure, never seen it for much distance. Jerkbaits in clear water I've seen bass just appear. Chasing from cover I'd consider a reaction strike.
  21. Had a relatively new spinning reel fail internally that wasn't cheap. So ordered a reliable Honda, Shimano Sahara 2500.
  22. We had a 17 acre farm pond growing up and we had a fish fry every couple of months and big bass flourished. That or introduce snakeheads, your choice.
  23. You'll get over it and catch another one, I'm sure. Most of my biggest fish are stored in my little mind, never had a camera. Honestly, I love seeing the big catches of others rather than mine.
  24. Y'all got deeper pockets then I 😁 Just received a Okuma inspira ISX 3000 and 13 fishing Omen gold as a dedicated drop-shot rod and reel. Snapped the top 3" of my previous outfit and completely changed the dynamics of that rod.
