  1. IMO going from an $80 rod to a $175 rod is going to make you a better fisherman when using contact baits. Going from a $100 reel to a $175 reel is just going to make you enjoy fishing more. You'll notice the difference in a rod before you even put a reel on it.
  2. I guess it does now ... had never heard/seen that before this thread
  3. Order placed
  4. Sunline Shooter 14 for jig fishing ... I just can't get myself to do it at the price point. I have never tried fluoro outside of the $1 kastking spools and that was a horrible experience, so I'm sure that may have something to do with it as well. *Edit - new to me line. I also want to try MastiffFC or whatever the Shimano offering is.
  5. Place reel in freezer for an hour then try to spin handle backwards. My bet is it spins backwards. Culprit with these things is usually grease freezing/becoming to stiff in the AR bearing. Braid slippage tends to be fairly noticeable.
  6. Did you just open it, feel it up, and close it back up??
  7. The good thing is if you type your social security in this forum they automatically block it! ***-**-****
  8. Anything special about the one the OP linked besides color??
  9. no movement even with the spool tension cap completely removed?
  10. The tool is great and doesn't really take long to figure out. No half hitches needed on an FG
  11. Inb4 this thread gets closed too
  12. this is why we can't have nice things
  13. I use the knot assist tool and would never to back to tying off on items/my foot/anywhere I can find. I dislike the use of any half hitch/overhand knots and prefer a rizzuto finish. I also burn a "bulb" on both the braid and leader tag ends with a lighter.
  14. Ive honestly never dealt with a treble hook that was difficult to remove. Swallowed single hooks on the other hand ... Anyhow if I were you I'd go treble and leave the barbs alone. I swapped over my deep divers to inline single hooks and although I'm sure I've had lost bites, it hasn't been bad enough for me to switch back and start losing lures every outing again.
  15. Roro for the CT. I was on the fence on getting this myself, but ultimately decided not to just bc I'm good with spinning. https://www.ebay.com/itm/255983973705?_trkparms=amclksrc%3DITM%26aid%3D777008%26algo%3DPERSONAL.TOPIC%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20230811123856%26meid%3D803ed3c8021f4334be1ecacfaf032e6f%26pid%3D101770%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D1%26itm%3D255983973705%26pmt%3D0%26noa%3D1%26pg%3D4375194%26algv%3DRecentlyViewedItemsV2&_trksid=p4375194.c101770.m146925&_trkparms=parentrq%3A0948876a18c0ac1d4708fa42fffe1762|pageci%3Ab4bc8feb-8bfc-11ee-a494-0a37187c5a31|iid%3A1|vlpname%3Avlp_homepage
  16. Only ardent I've tried is the military edition baitcaster. Worst baitcaster I've ever had period. I have heard positive things about their higher end stuff though.
  17. Wiha or Wera or those screws aren't coming out ... I learned the Craftsman way
  18. ^ This is probably your best bet. My favorite was the Mister Twister grab bags they used to sell pre-pandemic. 75 assorted soft plastics for $10 was a great deal.
  19. I believe all 2000s are a super shallow spool which hold less line than a 1000 size. I use a Nasci 2000 for trout and it holds about 100m of 3lb Varivas line. Depending on what you're throwing, you'll likely dump the spool with 4lb or higher. I wouldn't go smaller than 2500 personally.
  20. That thread looks like it screws into plastic. Screw to hold the thumb bar in place #63? Take spool out and look down in there ...
