  1. I have seen grooved recoils. Most of the time when braided lines are causing grooves in guides it is because of the hard particle's found in water that collect in the lines core and cause a sawing effect on the rings. Much like a particle wire saw. The biggest problem I have found with recoils and braided lines, is the song that they like to sing.... They are noisy under heavy fish fighting.... Tight Lines!!!
  2. Maybe the Reel Mechanic will chime in. I see a lot of parts on the Internet available. Start by getting a schematic and go from there. If you don't know where to start, the Reel Mechanic can probably handle it and BassPro has a repair center you mail it to and they'll contact you with an estimate. I believe age isn't a problem. Sure can help you out right here. The system is dirty and the grease is old and sticky.. Fix: Clean and re-lubricate the reel Tight Lines!!!
  3. I have done a lot of full cork grip mods to split, but not on a factory rod that will lose the warranty when the mod is done. You do know that Shimano® will not look at the rods once they are modified.... Good Luck......
  4. Pacific Bay (PacBay) is one of the oldest names in rod components manufacturing... Tight Lines!!!
  5. Wow, purchased my 5601 (red) BCX from BPS and it came in a box. Maybe you all should stop buying your reels from Wally World.. I didn't purchase the reel for bass as I don't think it was built for that type of fishing anyway (I use it for cats). The reel out of the box was smooth, and cast what I need very well. It has a nice multi disk drag systems that holds well, 3 SS ball bearings. Granted it isn't a C3 but then I didn't want to pay the price for a C3.. The reel doesn't IMPO deserve the negative review from the group here. How many of you here have actually fished one on the water, and, not from the store counter... Tight Lines!!!
  6. Yes Sir, Had to according to the site FAQ... Tight Lines!!!
  7. What about the use of a single foot guide in the size you want wrapped to the tip instead of a tube tip top? Just a thought..... Tight Wraps!!!
  8. I agree with Uncle Leo, a close quarter spinnerbait rod.... Tight Lines!!!
  9. Sounds like what you are trying to do is re-engage the reel without taking up any line. Try this trick, when you have completed your cast and the lure is in the water place your thumb on the spool and crank the handle, it will re-engage without taking up line.. It works with all of my 201b's....... Tight Lines!!!
  10. None by the drivers themselves but, more by the un-trained/practiced hands using them. I have a $7.00 set of tools that are satin finished and made from quality hardened steel, that are just as comfortable to use as the linked set. In the right hands IMO any budget priced tool can do the job's... Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!!
  11. Maybe so but to much $$$ for a hobbiest, IMO... Again I don't agree. I paid about $15 for my set from TI back in the 80's and I haven't stripped a screw head in 25 years working on reels. You don't need expensive tools like that when your occasionally braking into reels, heck I wouldn't recommend that expensive of a set even for a pro... Take your time and work right in the proper environment, and you won't have any problems.... Just the words of a pro! Tight Lines!!!
  12. Don't quite understand why, if you do not know how to break the reel down, you would consider doing what you think is a service to the reel.... :-?
  13. The ability to visit the shop to view the work, and good communications. This list is of all the registered builders in Fl in the tackleworks directory on rodbuilders.org Also check your local yellow pages for Custom Rod Builders and Repair.. Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!
  14. Aluminum and Saltwater don't mix..... Wouldn't even chance it.... I would get a system dedicated for salt and use just that... Tight Lines!!!
  15. Sure you can........ Just don't think about how much it will cost you to replace it when you screw it up..... Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!
  16. I don't doubt that the instructions would say that. They said the same thing for the round reels of the 70's But in all actuality, unless you remove the old oil (via a quality cleaning) your just adding new over old and flooding the reel.. In fishing reel lubrication, less is best. Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!
  17. No not at all. There are only 3 bearings in any reel that affect a reels casting qualities, all of which are spool support. The rest are in places in the reel that clean up the feel of the reel when in retrieving mode. Also it isn't the number of bearing packs in a reel but the actual quality of those bearing packs.. Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!
  18. I would send it to Shimano® as I don't think it (the spool) can be repaired, I think the spool will need to be replaced. They (Shimano®) would have the part readily available.. Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!
  19. Shielded bearing packs can be cleaned and re-lubed without any dis-assembly. While Sealed bearing packs have to be dis-assembled. So why are you wanting to dis-assemble your bearing packs? Tight Lines!!!
  20. If I were on the west coast again building rods, and looking for info on rods to build for that area and fishing styles, I would be contacting the local custom builders for the info. Here are some of the guys in your area... Good Luck & Tight Wraps!
  21. Like Bass-Brat recommended contact them direct. If the main service center is slow/backed up, then I would be contacting a Satellite Warranty Service Center closest to you for their turn around time.... Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!
  22. #1 3X Zulu's White/Pearl, big spots (4#) love this lure locally during spawn.... #2 Rattling Chugg Bug Chrome/Blue, why because the big spots (4#) after spawn in my waters can't stay off of it.. #3 Buzzbaits Chart/White, because it works all the time.... Tight Lines!!!
  23. HAPPY NEW YEAR! Good Luck & Tight Lines In The New Season!
