New PB @ Pocahontas State park! guess the weight!
I say assume the fish is 6lbs. What is your previous Personal best? This same thing happened to me TWICE with two fish in the 5 - 6 1/2 lb range. Lucky me, I fished a tournament and pulled a 7lb 2oz to set things straight. Right after that, I got a scale and wont' leave home without it.

Choosing a rod
Don't have either rod, but I'd definitely take the St Croix over a Cabelas or Bass Pro rod.

Hand Tied Jigs
Megastrike jigs aren't hand tied, neither are Earthworm (MicroMunch), not sure about the others.

seaguar invizX
I've used the 12lb and liked it a LOT. It's expensive though, but very good. It's the only true fluoro I've used and it's great. Give it a shot.

Pretty alright day (5lber) - I LOVE THE RAIN!
Dude, I don't have the patience to throw a swimbait. That game plan was out the window after the first 5 casts. No confidence in that bait and don't have a rod rated for over 1 1/2oz so it didn't work too well ;D I've never seen a craw in there once in my life, yet I still catch some jig fish. Mhmm, they must be out there. ya gotta have the right tools that's for sure....as for the craws ya know they got 'em they are everywhere...bass get sharp teeth from rootin' for them especially in the summer. This lady must have been heavily chompin on some craws then. I had never felt something like that happen. That 7lber from clear lake chomped down and it didn't feel like anything at all. This gal chomped down and I sure felt it. I'm gonna get a swimbait rod by spring time.

LBH convinced me to take it fishing today. Him and his NorthFace stuff! I've had the jacket for 3 years and not used it ONCE until today. But man, it worked like a CHARM.

Pretty alright day (5lber) - I LOVE THE RAIN!
Got to fish my new hand tied jigs that I made. It rained the better part of the day, but was it fun. Fishing in the rain is my new favorite! Thanks LBH for the help. I've got some BAD Bass Palm from the 5lber, he bit down hard on my hand right as I was going to release him. Biggest of the day 5lbs on the dot: Few others ranging from 1 1/2lbs - 2 1/2lbs:

Not fat, but definitely got length to her. I'd say 6 1/2lbs.

Don't you hate it when this happens ??? :-(
Today is my one day off this week too. I was going to go fish Lafayette, but not too sure anymore. Today says 70% of rain, and tomorrow 20%. I could always call in, but I'm not prepared to work today, I'm tired. To go or not to go.

Is This For Real?
Yes, it's real, it was talked about a bit in "Most expensive lure" topic somewhere. They sure are pretty!

Is there anything I can do?
It's a small reservoir with big problems of people releasing strange fish to the water. There is a rule no types of goldfish or minnows for bait. They stock bass 2wice in the summer but not very many and they're almost all gone within a week or two. The stocked bass are starved, they're ready to eat anything right away. I don't think they care all that much if the bass fishing goes down hill because the majority of people come for catfish and trout. It's not a real bass fishery and there are only a handful of guys who religiously go out and fish for bass. I'm just going to bring it to their attention . If they choose to do something about them, thank you, if not I'll probably start looking else where to fish.

Patriots vs Cowboys 3:15 CST Sunday
Thank god I got brady on my fantasy team. 44.5pnts. I traded LT though and could have had another 50pnts. 2 players for almost 100 points, holy cow! Brady is amazing. Plain and simple, best quarter back I have ever watched play. (I'm only 19 and haven't watched some of the all time greats play).

What bait do you think takes most skill to fish?
I think a jig takes the most time to perfect and get great at. Takes a long time to really get down. Detecting hits sometimes can be tough, it's not always the tap tap many are looking for. Setting the hook at the right time and hard enough as well takes time. It's my favorite bait to throw, but very tough to get very good with.

Daiwa Light and Tough rods
I have 0 sporting good stores that carry St Croix. Therefore, I can't get that deal, unless they might have some online..? I'm leaning towards the Powell Drop shot or Dobyns rod though. But these rods do look nice.

MegaStrike Evolution Jigs?
I fished them for about a month, and caught a decent amount of fish, biggest going 4lbs. They do stand up, they do have good colors, but the price and the skirt are the only down sides imo. I wish these jigs were hand tied, keeping the skirt from rotating and giving it more flair. I recently began learning to tie jigs, and For $10 for 2, I haven't purchased anymore. But they do work.

went out this mornin' and found some love
she was within 80 miles of my place didn't get her on the punker but got her on the big bait. good thing the banks aren't always closed on sunday thanks guys! it's been work You are one LUCKY dude. That fish is nice, along with the other DD you've caught lately. I wish I had the patience to throw a big bait, but you seem to be catching them quite frequently. I've been fighting the urge of throwing a big bait, but the more fish I see like this from lakes some what near me, the more I can't resist.

Daiwa Light and Tough rods
2. Or maybe 2.5. But not 3. If it fished like a rod 3 times its price, it would fish like a Loomis GLX. And we know that couldn't possibly be the case. So you would compare this rod to a Loomis IMX rod? It's either this rod, the Lamiglas Drop shot rod, the Dobyns 701 or 703 , or a Powell Drop Shot rod. Can't make up my dang mind!!

Hook for drop shotting
#2 hook on a 6-10lb bass? I couldn't IMAGE even trying to do that.
-
Loomis warranty info
You're paying the shipping both ways. $25 each pretty much. Not really paying $50 for the rod. Plus I got my loomis rod for $290 so I'd be paying full price once I break my rod in a year or two down the road.

Holy Cow man! That's a pretty fish. You're one of the few guys that I see catch 10lb+ Bass around here NOT in spring. Congrats man. Was that at CL ? and on the punker? Or something different?

Daiwa Light and Tough rods
I was going to get a Powell or Dobyns drop shot rod, but saw these rods. they're $50 cheaper, but if they're as good as the old ones, seems like a good deal..

Is there anything I can do?
First. It's not legally if they're using live bait such as minnows or any live fish. Secondly. I don't know what else they're doing illegally (keeping more then 5 fish, keeping undersized fish as well), I don't know. I am worrying about my own fishing, but when the majority of the small population of bass that are in there, are taken out, it hurts my fishing. That's me worrying about my own fishing.
