Bass handling
Some tournaments a net is restricted, which I think is DUMB, but that's the rules.

This was a first for me...
I don't have a BPS, but I have an overpriced local tackle shop where everything is more expensive. I can't even walk out of there empty handed, so if I had a BPS, I doubt I'd walk out with even under $100 worth of stuff.

Weird fish
Just tell'm you had it in your fish tank but now it's too big. No need to disclose that it was caught in an open lake!

Lure Colors- cutting through the confusion
I stay with 2-3 colors for almost 90% of my plastics. Purple and Watermelon are my two favorite colors, but the watermelon I like with different flakes.

Carrot Stick
I just looked at some on ebay yesterday. They look pretty sweet. I think I saw one for $167 + $12 shipping.

so whats the deal over these Paddle tail thingers
This isn't some wire and metal like a chatterbait. This is a poured plastic that is hollow, shaped and expertly finished. the knockoffs have started and will surely grow, but I don't think some yahoo with a dip kit is going to be able to duplicate the action of these baits. I agree it won't be too long before some of the premium companies start pouring their own versions, but untill then this is the only hollow body minnow bait of premium quality around. Hype? Well there is certainly alot of hyperventilating going on, but unlike the chatterbait which had only a few BIG wins, the basstrix paddletail is stomping the competition in tournaments all over the place. I have some on the way and will post objectively on my findings. I already start with a bias. namely that while it seems to catch bigger than average bass it is not landing anything really big to my knowledge. Avid nailed it. It's not just a plastic fish with a paddle tail. The softness of these baits, the action, and especially the paint jobs done on these baits are phenomenal. $12 is worth it, $15-$20 for a pack of 3 is a bit much. The only thing I've had troubles with these baits, are setting the hook. I'd like to find a round jig head and expose the hook on the top, because T-Rigging this bait, even with the proper hook, I've been having some troubles getting a solid hook set.

Using beads (metal/glass) instead of rattles..
I use mega strike and catch fish, but no more so then any of the other scents I've put on. I just use it to mask the human scent from my hands touching the bait, nothing else.

10/22/07--Swimming Senko 6 lber
That's a real beauty. Good to see some fatter fish, some of those fish worry me a bit with how skinny they are. That one you posted last time looked to have the head of an 8lber but was only like 3lbs or whatever.

Just ordered my 3:16 wake jr!
Can't wait to get it! Big baits, here I come! Thing looks amazing. Better be worth the extra $40 over the BBZ, from articles read, I think it's worth it.

Opening A Fishing Store
You love every aspect of FISHING, but you won't have time to be fishing for the most part, you will be working. I can understand how it could easily be many of our dreams to work at a fishing store. But I'd rather work 30-40 hours, and make good money. Why not get a business degree, and open up a BPS or Cabelas franchise? I'm not sure if that's how they work, but many franchise type stores do this. Or become a manager at a BPS? Any Mom n Pop place, grocery store, fishing store, gym, EVERYTHING is going to continue to decline until they're all gone. With places like Wal-Mart, Target, and about 20 others, it's just going to get worse. Get rich another way, then open up a tackle store where you don't need to make money to survive, and it will just be for fun and you can keep the hours small. 5 days a week 11-6 or something. Hope this isn't shattering your dreams, it CAN be done but just needs to be done a smarter way. It's not just Invest money and then bam you have a shop.

so whats the deal over these Paddle tail thingers
Regardless what others say, they are very good baits, and there isn't another bait like it right now, period. They're not worth over $12 a packt hough, that's for sure. Just wait until they're easier to get.

all star or diawa?
Crankbaits are best fished with a moderate action rod not a fast tip rod. Like Raul said, you're going to be losing fish. If you want a Crankbait / Spinnerbait rod, get yourself the Carrot Stick . If you want something for weightless plastics then that's another story. Use your Ugly Stick or whatever for cranks, that's about the only thing they're ok for. I'd go with the L&T if I had to pick between the two. But if I was mostly aiming for cranks i'd go with the carrot stick, and for other rods I'd go with my Gblanks! Great custom rods for a great price.

I don't know what happened....
Catch that fish in Spring, you'll have a new PB for sure bud.
-
dual purpose diawa/kistler
If you're doing light pitching, I'd say don't go below 7ft . The L&T is definitely too short for both, at least for me. I did all my pitching with a 6'10 mh and hated it. Does Kistler make a 7ft heavy? if so that's what i'd go with for sure.

Carrot Stick
I'd hate to use a parabolic action rod for SENKOS. Get the spinning Carrot stick, and then you could use it for weightless senkos. But the Casting Carrot stick has the action that works perfect for crankbaits. I think robert also said it's alright for spinnerbaits, but regardless, I wouldn't throw a senko on the casting version of the carrot stick. Wait until the other models come out if you have your heart set on a carrot stick. From the sounds of things, they'll have quite a few options in a little while.

Sucky Day + 9lb Catfish
Once you said that, I felt a bit better. Thanks man, hopefully I'll catch her.

How hard is it to build a rod?
I've been looking through a few Rod building threads on here, and looks as if more people are starting to do this. How long does it take to build a rod roughly once the blank is purchased? Is it easy to mess up so bad that the blank goes to waste, or is it a pretty low risk situation? Is this something just about anyone can do, or are there many tools and such that go into properly building a rod. What are the lightest, most sensitive, below $150 blanks ? And how much can I expect to pay extra past the money of the blank? Links or anything would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again.

Sucky Day + 9lb Catfish
It would have been an OK day by my standards if I hadn't lost that one fish.

My FIRST Jig fish :)
You had a feeling, and your feeling was right! Congrats man, told you it was only a matter of time.

Sucky Day + 9lb Catfish
So today SUCKED. Fished from 7am-5pm . 1 2lb bass after 3 hours of fishing. 2 hours later, 9lb catfish on a jig. Then about an hour before 5pm I was throwing my basstrix and... WHAM BAM! I felt a hard THUD. Set the hook, rod loads up, I make one turn of the reel, fish jumps, spits my bait and my line goes slack. TERRIBLE way to end a day. I only saw the fish for a split second, but if it was FOR SURE over 6lbs, and probably in the 6-8lb range. here's the catty.
