Epic fish and even more epic first post!!

Got out for a couple hours before dark. I got a 4 pounder and another decent fish on the rage tail cut-r 

Got out for a few hours this morning, trying to decide if I wanted to jump into the kayak tournament on the lake by my house this Saturday. I always forget how much 2' of extra water is on a lake with no banks. Spread a small population of bass out through a flooded jungle of willow trees, makes it tough. My first bite took about 45 minutes to find, but at least it was a good one.

Fishing was ok this morning, lots of small fish. Couple of good ones. This pickerel crushed a Berkley Juke shallow running jerkbait. He was mad!

Caught this “whatever” on a XZone True Center Stick in Carolina Pumpkin Black Flake set up as a Neko rig. 
 

I think it may be a spotted bass, but not sure. I switched over to my new Falcon Lowrider All Round Fast MHF rod and a Daiwa Fuego CT reel spooled with 10 lb. YZH and a Daiwa/GYBC Neko Macho rigged as a weightless TR on a Gamakatsu 3/0 EWG. First cast nothing. Second cast it sank maybe 6” and got hammered. I set the hook and I knew I had a good ‘un. It went on three long runs and went 180° from my right to my left. It started to head for shoreline brush and I horsed it out and finally landed it. What a beautiful bass!

Nice!!! I don’t think that’s a spot but I can see why you might say that. I thought it was at first glance but spots will have some different markings below the lateral line. Is Guadalupe a possibility?

Looking at pics, I’d say no. But looking at pics, I can’t say it’s a spotted bass, either. All I know for sure is that the jaw does not extend past the eye like a smallie.

Bite started early and was over just as quick.

Best 5 were a blip under 25 lbs.

Report & video for this one will be combined with whatever happens the next two days.

So a 'Best of Three Days on Lake Menderchuck" is coming . . .

LOL had to add the old "got a few trophy trip openings"  ala bill wetzel from that post. 

First bass of 2021, nothing special as far as size. But I'm on the board!!

Day Two was very decent (and warmer)

Added a couple more in the 5 lb class to the season tally today ~

I'll be adding this one along with yesterday & tomorrow to a report & video early next week.

Nothing with any size to it but the males were destroying that dark sleeper.

 

Little fella but the first topwater fish of the year still felt pretty great.

 

Caught my new personal best yesterday! Was fishing Lake Kissimmee and flipping with a 3/4oz in some pads with a Jackall Archelon in black and blue. Fish measured at 24" long and 18" girth. I would guess she was around 9lbs and would have loved to see her a month or so ago during spawn but still very thankful.

 

The better part was also that this lake had been kicking our butt and been really tough on us. Yesterday we caught more fish than our last three trips there combined so it was a great day.

Put those dimensions in the fish weight calculator and it comes out at 10.16lbs FWIW.

It's just a lightly colored largemouth. Close that mouth and watch the jawline extend past the eye and you'll have no doubts. 

I did at the time. The jaw did not extend past the eye. Not even close. Much smaller in diameter than normal for a LMB as well.

You have to push the jaw up. The diameter of the fish has nothing to do with IDing them. It's a largemouth without a doubt. Once you've seen a bunch they really don't look very similar. NorcalBassins little topwater fish is a spot for example.

I was referring to the diameter of the mouth, not the body of the bass. The mouth was noticeably smaller than any similar-sized LMB that I’ve ever caught.
