Nothing all that much impressive today.  There was no pattern today.  I caught 6 different fish on 6 differnt lures.  Didn’t get a picture of the pike that went 26 inches for some reason.  Caught the one on a chatter bait that I made.  The head and skirt is called baby bass

shad raps have been working so far caught another one on a black and silver #5.  Caught the pike on a divine swim bait, and another bass on a flicker Shad.  I need to invest in some more of Shad raps.

Last couple years I’ve nailed some nice early in March and April.  So far that hasn’t been the case

lake was Murphy lake near millington mi.

Today I caught my first 8" hudd fish... after over 100 hours fishing it over the years. I've caught fish on bigger baits but for some reason I could never get them on the traditional slow bottom crawl

  • So I went fishing today, and caught a 9#. Scale bounced between 8-15 and 9-2, but let's call it a 9, shall we? NLMB trout eater.   Super slow rolling a 8" weedless on the bottom in about 15

Pretty nice day today, 7 fish mostly small. 2 pickerel one was barely bigger then the lure, one was around 20 inches or so... everything on a Lucky Craft SP jerkbait. The Pickerel were hitting hard today I lost another decent size one at the shoreline.

This little Pickerel was mean for his size?

2.9 lber caught today, at least according to the cheap Ozark trail manual scale I had on hand. May have overestimated the size a bit, but for my ego, I'll go with the 2.9 it gave me ?.

CPR'd.  Caught, Photographed, released quickly.

IF, a big IF my scale is anything close to correct, I caught my PB this morning within 15 minutes of arrival at the lake and concluded the day with another solid fish.

Hold the excitement or legit PB?

I have that same scale it weighs a 5 lb plate right at 5 lbs . Try something at home for calibration, like weights or a 4 lb sack of sugar

Congrats on the new milestone

my cousin missed all of last year fishing with me due to covid concerns. heck, he even sold his boat. but now he’s had both doses of the vaccine and he’s ready to make up for lost time. first time on the water in over a year and he even had me down 3-0 early on! i hate his guts ?

I just got home, fired up the grill, and 6poundbass was beating on the door with this. He’s officially on the bass board with quite possibly a new PB for him, I didn’t get a weight but it’s top two for him no doubt. He’s still on cloud 9 right now.

Great fish!  Which of you holds the title for best fish out of your new home lake so far?

That one probably does it. The worst part is my mother in-law has caught the biggest here out of our family, to top that off it was her first bass ever caught (4.5 lbs)

6pounder is kicking my tail. Caught some fish but no bass here yet.

Interesting day today.

Fished from 8:30am to 3pm.  Water temps from 56.5 in the south/deep end in the morning to 62 in the shallow north end in the afternoon.  I caught 12 bass.  I thought I would be spending more time in the backs of spawning coves but I only caught small bass back there.  All of the biggest bass were at the mouths or just inside the beginning of the coves.  None of the bass had scraped up tails.  All were in perfect condition.

A blk/blu @Siebert Outdoors Fogy with a blk/blue SK Menace caught the most and a Cotton Cordell lipless in my favorite Walmart-only shad color was a close second.  Also caught one on a chartruese 1.5 squarebill and one on a t-rigged coppertruese Zinker Z.  We are about to have a temp drop with cloudy skies and a bit of rain.  The water temps shouldn't go up any more this week.  I'm interested to see if the fish are in the same places this coming weekend or if they'll keep moving up regardless of water temps.

Well, once again time on the water pays off. Congratulations @6poundbass for landing a lunker!

Good idea. I'll definitely have to try that!! Got a feeling I need to take a pound and a half or so off each of those fish today. But I still feel fairly confident the larger one was a 5. It was pretty darn heavy holding with one hand.

Congrats on the new milestone

I just checked my scale with a 5 gallon bucket and I put 3 sodas in it. A 5 gallon bucket empty weighs 31ounces. Weighed it first and yup, that's about what rhe scale showed-31 ounces(1lb 15 oz) Then I added 3 unopened sodas in it and weighed them. 36 ounces plus the 31 from the bucket gave me 67 ounces. Divided that by 16 to get just over 4 lbs. And that's exactly what my scale read with those in there. Just over 4 lbs.

So apparently I did indeed catch 2 very good fish today. Needless to say, I am stoked with the PB.

The brothers Phish can't shut up about bass fishing. If there's a family function at either of our houses we'll inevitably slip away into the garage, or out to the trucks to play show and tell, or to discuss tactics. My nephews have been exposed to us in bassin mode, but for some reason we could never really gain any traction with them regarding the subject. Their faces are always stuck in cell phones. The older one's in love, we all get it, but the younger one isn't yet. Still, we couldn't get him to engage about fishing. Invited him, but he wouldn't commit..

So, I was surprised by a phone call from my sister just before X-mas of '19. She let me know that nephew #2 really wanted to go fishing with us, finally, but he wanted his own gear. We made our recommendations, she made it rain, but winter was already upon us. Then 2020 happened, so that put the kibosh on taking him out.

Last week he went down to my parent's house in S.C for spring recess. Pops is in a bass club, and nephew #2 couldn't wait to get out on the water. Completely obsessed they said. My father showed him how to rig a 5" senko, then on his first cast, Bingo! Mama Phish told me he was out of his mind happy. I think we have a new member of the crew.

That is awesome!!!! Now he will be literally hooked for life. My 2 nephews went together a couple years ago. Oldest nephew was having a lot of success catching bluegill, younger nephew was struggling mightily. At the end of the day oldest nephew caught 14 bluegill, youngest 0nly caught the one.

Sadly since that day, the youngest nephew has lost interest in fishing, and has declined every time  ive asked him to go ?. Can't make him go if he doesn't want to though. Unfortunately he is now addicted to phones and Xboxes....... Oh how things may have been different if he had caught at least a handful that day, or a 1 decent size bass....... but alas.

Man, it’s been a slow go lately. I tried a new pond a few days ago that looked good (lots of structure). But it was dead. Went back to the same old, same old pond later in the day and caught five bass.  Two were pounders. The other three were maybe 6” long lol.

Fished a couple hours the next day in the AM and had no bites. Came back in the late afternoon and caught another 6” whopper and this one, while I was trying to remove a wind knot.

That was on a #956 Senko WR. The first trip I used a Whopper Plopper, Megabass Pop Max, Rat-L-Trap lipless, floating Rapala, spinnerbait with trailer, Rage craw, X Zone craw, Zoom Tricks, Senkos (WR & TR) and nothing was biting. It’s April and water temps in these ponds are in the 60°s. I know the bass are here, but I’ve been fishing in 2021 since January and I have not seen any personal evidence of spawning. I must be missing something.

Sometimes the evidence of spawning is a lack of catching. Keep after em!
