The last week of May and the first week of June was killer. Then the bite went to hell until today. Landed 6 on a Fluke in about an hour. I'd sworn off buying the Zoom Fluke because of trash packaging and half always being warped, twisted up garbage, but happened upon a few packs in excellent condition. Best bass of the day is pictured. I only caught them under overhanging trees and bushes, and always on the initial jerk.

Today I caught my first 8" hudd fish... after over 100 hours fishing it over the years. I've caught fish on bigger baits but for some reason I could never get them on the traditional slow bottom crawl

It's been really slow lately - I spent 9 hours at Possum Kingdom yesterday and got skunked. Today I tied my best bass of the year with a 5.8 at Ray Roberts. I also caught maybe the smallest fish of the year. I would have stayed later but I like to end on a high note.

Sunrise Smallie ~

Fished the titabawassee river today.  Caught 5 a mix of smallies and large mouth.  Actually my first smallies I’ve caught on the titabawassee since the dam failures 2 years ago.  First one came on a 2.5 KVD sexy shad chrome square bill.  The rest came on a the arkie jig that I pour/make.  Black and blue flake head with black and blue fire tip skirt.  Used a black and blue strike king rage menace.  Looking like I wont be back out untill this time next week.

Got out last night and started with the S-Waver.  First cast and a fish hit it pretty quick.  Of course I was hoping it was something big but it turned out to just be about a 1.5# fish.  Oh well, first fish on that lure, so that was fun, and it gave me high hopes for the evening.

However, I tossed that around a little longer with no luck.  Switched to the drop shot and caught a dink and then no luck.  Switched to a TRigged 10" power worm and started getting bites but everything was short striking or I wasn't letting it sit long enough.  I'm always worried about gut hooking fish and I'd prefer to miss one then have that happen.  Eventually I caught one.  A really solid and thick upper 2s fish.  Was real happy with that for how the night was going until I realized he was of course gut hooked.  For the life of me I couldn't get that hook out so I cut it as low as I could and let him go.  He swam off strong but we'll see.

Picked up one more smaller fish on the power worm and that was it for the night.  Luckily I saw a boat load of deer which was the pick-me-up of the evening.  Had this little buck show up across the pond from me to get a drink.  The powers that be might be trying to tell me it's time to get ready for September.

Went pondhopping yesterday with a buddy and then to the Elm Fork of the Trinity below Ray Roberts.

Two 1.5lb ish bass early on the banks of a lesser fished city pond, my biggest two at that pond of the 6 or 7 times I've fished it. Pictures below are those two.

After that there was a dink, then nothing till the river. Got a bluegill, a small drum, and a decent longnose gar all on the chatterbait micro. Not a day to write home about but any day catching is a good day. Got skunked tonight at the state park but sometimes that happens. I at least got to go.

Finally got a chance to try out these new to me EWG bullet Nedlockz. I buried the hook's point deeper into the ElaZtech than I would've liked to, but they had no problem getting the hook anyway, and I didn't lose one casting them straight into the lily pads and junk then fishing them through. Pretty cool. I don't hate the Ned rig anymore.

I got down to CT last weekend and a friend invited me to a private pond (about 15 acres).  I had a really good frog bite for the first couple hours of the morning, getting bit on every 2-3 cast for quite a while.  But, most fish were small and I was in a canoe so missed more than I hooked.  That made me lazy when I finally got one about 3# right to the boat without insuring my hook set.  He spit the frog just as I was reaching for his lip, so there’s no proof I saw any over a pound. lol.  Once the frog bite slowed, I switched to a TR 6" worm with plenty of bites.  After hearing my host say they've caught fish up to about 7# here, I up-sized to a 10" Power Worm on a 4/0 EWG with 1/4oz weight.  First time I’d ever fished a worm that big and I was surprised (and disappointed - lol) how small a fish I could catch on it.

After catching at least 50 fish and missing more than that in 4-5 hours, my buddy said the fishing was very slow that day - my thumb tells a different story. ?

Got two this morning, been a very cold spring and I am not entirely convinced that these fish have even finished (or started in some cases) spawning yet, hopefully that means a longer good weather period on the back end of the year!

I had the top of a outgoing tide and almost dead calm conditions to start the morning. I eventually whittled down my topwater offerings to throwing a popper, picking up a few 1-2.5 lbs fish as the morning progressed.
I was starting to think where I might go next as I finished up the stretch of bank with a few more casts with the popper. Outta nowhere the water erupted and a big green fish came out of the water and crashed down on my popper leaving a huge swirl in its wake. A second or two later my rod loaded and the fight was on, a couple of drag stripping runs that redirected the boat and I was eventually able to get her in the net. She weighed a healthy 6.56 lbs and was released after a memorable battle.

The bass-skunk is over - and the F-9 has been properly christened.

I know it's not impressive - but it's the first bass for the boat...deal with it.

In fact - it was my only bass today (sobs).

It's been an absolute grind out west this year, my last three trips have resulted in 2 fish, and water temps JUST starting to get over 60, in freaking July lol...I can totally understand your pain.

Nice fish! Great pic, but no story? We like at least a little fishing story around here. Spotted bigfoot, chased by an alligator, something?

Morning started slow.  Went over an hour without a bite fishing outside weedlines and steep drops.  Got into a big cove with lots of fish suspended at 10-15.  Tossed a deep crank and it was lights out for a half hour or so.  At one point,  I caught 5 on 6 casts.  Probably around 10 or 12, all around 2#.  Moved up lake and worked a rocky point.  Got a couple decent on a Magnum Rage Bug on a swing jig.  Then this one hit and didn't move.  Thought I set the hook on the rocks.  Once she took off it was a good fight.  New PB at 7.5.
