Today I caught my first 8" hudd fish... after over 100 hours fishing it over the years. I've caught fish on bigger baits but for some reason I could never get them on the traditional slow bottom crawl

  • So I went fishing today, and caught a 9#. Scale bounced between 8-15 and 9-2, but let's call it a 9, shall we? NLMB trout eater.   Super slow rolling a 8" weedless on the bottom in about 15

Bob, you're already in Heaven.....having a tractor, acreage, and a pond is about as close to heaven as we can get on earth.    Not to mention you live in one of the best states to live in.

That said TnRiver46 has his own piece of heaven figured out quite nicely.  I'd be happy with either one.

Thanks Alex!

I have been blessed innumerable times, and I shouldn't covet they neighbors river view....but just imagine waking up to this every morning!

Wait. Is his name Mr. River or Mr. 46?

  • Super User

Your version of getting skunked is WAY WORSE than the way most of us get skunked!!!

  • Super User

Yep, when Mr. River of the 46 Clan gets skunked, you don't wanna be home when he comes home.

Just getting over a reaaaally nasty case of COVID that ripped through my family and is lingering unfortunately.  Haven't been able to get out much at all the last couple weeks but Jake is out of school for Christmas break tomorrow and we have....plans 😎😎😎

Happy to see folks catching em!  I'm feeling a okay and ready to get back at it at my next opportunity and thankful to have my health back.

  • Super User

I'm thankful for you health too, Pat. Good luck tomorrow!

Wondering where Pat the slaunch slayer was at......glad to hear you're feeling better, and hope the lingering sickness clears up quickly!

Hope Jake puts a beat down on you tomorrow 😁

Finally got a chance to take my dad out again after a few weeks off the water, and we were fortunate to come across a nice mixed bag of LM and spots.

Can't complain about an early topwater bite in December!

Underspin did the most damage and they were eating it.

Threw a Ned for a bit and ended up with this surprise.

Last one of the day.

Man I haven't caught a fish since the 8th. I think I've had two bites in that time. Doesn't help to go through a breakup and start new meds. Whoever said I couldn't catch the broad side of a barn in Winter was right. I'm considering buying a single bass from my local pond shop just to remember what it's like 😭

Glad to see I'm fairly alone in this boat, honestly !

It’s a winter bass that I caught with no electronics and a no frills kayak. I don’t care that it’s small.

Badin. Water is quite clear and chilly. Nighttime temps are below 30 right now and there was barely a gasp of wind today. I look forward to conditions improving.

Only clue I have is to start looking for some deeper wood. Might change launches tomorrow

Same conditions as @LrgmouthShad, but I've come to rely heavily on my 2D/Sidescan during the winter.   Wouldn't have caught this one on the Damiki Vault without it today.     DSC07072.jpg

Better than me - my last bass was mid September.

I couldn't get a bite on jigs, plastics, or crankbaits this morning so I decided to go after panfish.  Sure enough, I caught a small bass on a Rooster Tail.  First December bass since 2015.

It's a mindset thing. For years I assumed that winter fishing would be a waste of time. Figured that dunking worms in creeks for suckers was the best I could hope for if there wasn't enough ice to support me on ponds.  In recent years our winters have trended warmer. You're in pretty much the same latitude as me. Dec. is actually one of my favorite months if weather permits. El Nino has put us in the sweet spot this month. Numbers and size have been good. Two tips: small waters and light tackle. You're not far from the birthplace of midwest finesse. Master it and get catching.

@TnRiver46 thanks dude. when I come back to fishing after a hiatus, I usually think of two things. 1. Gosh it’s so good to be fishing again. 2. Do I remember how to do this fishing thing?

Every time it’s just like riding a bicycle again.

Got out on Lake Toho this week for two days of post cold front with high winds. Fishing was slow & the fish that did bite did not want to commit. We did the best we could with difficult conditions. Highlight of the trip for me was slow rolling a Hudd 68 & catching my first ever fish on a Hudd. I'll be more commited to it in the future.
