Latest Tackle Purchase Thread (Bait Monkey Victim Support Group)

Featured Replies

Picked up an 8-inch shad colored magdraft, 3/4oz punching jigheads, PowerBait pit bosses, and 20-pound Suffix mono. I can't wait for next April. All from my local tackle store, Baitwrx. It's easier to get in and out and find what you need than going to Bass Pro.

Megabass Magdraft Swimbaits

Berkley PowerBait Pit Boss Green Pumpkin; 3 in.

Sufix Advance Monofilament 20 lb Low-Vis Green

Acquired a couple new glides while the website was down. A Biggs Cetus and a KGB Prince.

Glad we’re back! I haven’t had a clue who to show my new stuff to. The soccer moms don’t seem to care as much as yall, and my wife for some reason wasn’t stoked for me showing all the other soccer moms “my haul.”

Here’s a couple over the last couple work trips (gotta work in we’re with a good tackle shop, right?)

Oh, I did have one big score while we were out....

First, my daughter and I went fishing and on the way back, a cheap spinning rod got slammed in the truck door and it broke her little heart.....so the only logical thing to do was tell her "don't worry sweetheart, we can find a new one no problem." So we start looking around, scoping out marketplace, etc., and finally stumble on a guy getting rid of a bunch of St. Croix rods. He says he's just changing to Lews and the rods seem to be in good shape....I ended up getting 3 mojo bass rods + a Kistler Series 1 2000 reel for $225....I'll take it.

It didn’t happen if you don’t share a photo of your purchase 😉

I think I snagged them from one of the Working Class Zero drops. I haven't even had the opportunity to fish them yet, but I'm excited to.

I just grabbed 2 packs of the 5” packs today on their drop…well, my wife did - I was on the baseball field.

Man I like the micros, but i don't know if i like them like they fly off the shelves on drop day....i think they are great, sure, but they really hit the marketing jackpot on the drop game...just my two cents (but I still get all the drops and fish most of them...lol)

My wife said the same thing. Grabbed some citizen micros from THU last drop and then signed up for WCZ emails. I’m waiting on some more battles shad to drop…

Not sure how it happened, still need to do some investigating, but this just showed up. Oddly enough it’s exactly what I wanted, so lucked up there….but we still can’t figure out why these boxes keep showing up. Oh well.

Anybody going to attempt to grab any Coikes tomorrow? Tackle Shack is supposed to be dropping some. Limit 2 per household. They are not fans of the resellers and “living in parents basement attempting to be a resellers”

I picked up the last 3 of these from Academy. Berkley even rigged them on a wire so you can see the vibrations in the tentacles.

Who is your dealer? cant find the stuff you guys posting😅

One lure per package? Not sure I'd use one of those. Looks expensive.

Over the last few years I have had the good fortune of having a professional rod finding agent helping me to find specific rods for my sons and I.

And yesterday I got a text to stop by one of his 2 tackle stores to take a look at some rods he acquired recently per our request. I was pleasantly surprised to find he had several made in Texas All Star rods made in the factory Gary Loomis' former partner Don Mook had built for Morgan McCain.

Once Don Mook completed his task for Morgan and went back to LCI, Morgan McCain was now making his own rods in Houston. And that is what my rod agent had found. Some like new 40 plus year old made in USA All Star rods. Some true Morgan McCain rods I was happy to add to my collection for $40. I may go back today and buy the others.

He finds them and keeps them in a back room for me. They never hit the sales floor. So the general public walking in the front door never even knows what is hidden in the back room. He is also searching for reels and lures as well. He's a big reseller of used tackle which is perfect for us.

These may be turned into CHW spirals soon. They are the same blank underneath, but finished off slightly differently due to the years in between these production runs. The top rod is the newer version of the older rod below it. These will be great for worms, spinners, and rat'l traps, etc.

AllStarRods.jpg

When Gary Loomis stood at the employee gate to Boeing Aircraft corporation looking for graphite engineers that kicked off the graphite fishing rod manufacturing here in USA, there is a select group of people who were involved. And it is from that group that I specialize my rod collecting within strictly. Vintage made in USA rods from the core of historical development.

My son is now focusing on Trey Kistler and Brad Loomis. He used one of my Kistler Helium rods the other day and was blown away by it. Now he wants some. Kistler rods "born in a Texas garage!"

At ICAST, we will be taking a good hard look at Tooka next.

I picked up one of these recently on a rod I wanted. Not sure what to do with it. Its too big for bass fishing and kind of heavy. More saltwater size and a clicker reel. I think I will take it down to my local rod agent and give it to him and let him resell it. Other than a few scratches after more than 60 years its darn near like new otherwise. Does not even need servicing after all those decades. Works fine as is. So I won't bother with this one.

And I have been enjoying another recent purchase based on a 1991 Shaw Grigsby Clearwater bass fishing video he did that we are planning on duplicating soon in same location.

IMG20260609232604690.jpg

Lure making is something I have been wanting to do for decades but never got around to actually doing it was kind of forced on me by my now 13 year old son.

We had a lot of unused unwanted rubber laying around saved just for melting down and recently my son urged me to start buying some lure molds so he can pour his own. And now he is off and running after watching local bass fisherman Terry Scroggins show him how to do it.

So yesterday he says dad we need more white rubber! So let's go scrounge through the clearance bin at the tackle shop! And so we did.

IMG20260615174152647.jpg

My problem is finding the right molds. I want specific shaped lures and just might have to make our own molds soon. This one is a silicone rubber mold that takes longer to cool down extending time between pours. The aluminum molds cool quicker and can be cooled down manually even faster. Not so with these silicone molds. They seem to hold the heat longer no matter what you do. So he's been sticking them in the freezer to speed it up. I told him to just fill up the shop sink with cold water and just dunk it. Water is not going to hurt a thing.

We may get into injection molds down the road, but for now just doing the top pour molds. It works. Just have to trim them up some.

My 13 year old son is already making triple color lures by pouring in one color for belly of lure, and then other colors on top. He's going to town on it now. No stopping him now. I told him maybe you can open your own lure business. Change the Z to B and BOOM lures is born! lol

He is planning on making millions of dollars selling his custom made lures to all his fishing buddies. I hope he does.

I checked out Whatnot based on your post. Had it for 2 days and deleted it. Got a few deals, and overpaid for a few things because they weren’t available elsewhere. Overall it’s not for me.

There were basically 4 types of sellers I encountered:

*JDM guy. He bought everything JDM he could get his hands on; and is now selling them for a profit. Not an awesome practice in my opinion. But if you’re looking for a specific finish on a JDM lure that you can never find in stock online, this dude has one and will auction it for $50. The sheer volume of JDM lures that move on that site everyday is wild. Every other seller has a wall of fresh Megabass they just got in from wherever they get them from.

*Wannabe JDM guy. He’s new. Wants to build a following on the site and is auctioning off expensive baits with very few eyeballs in the room because he’s trying to gain followers. He hasn’t run the numbers yet to realize what he has is an expensive hobby, and not a business.

*Alibaba/Homemade guy. They’re buying generic lures on Alibaba and making their own baits and soft plastics. Volume sellers.

*Bought a pallet of used goods and some of em turned out to be fishing related guy. They have no idea what they’re selling, but they have a lot of it.

I watched certain screen names spend hundreds of dollars in a matter of minutes. Thousands of dollars over the course of an hour. On bass fishing lures. Blew my mind.

Nailed it!

My best deals are from the guys with low viewer #s and are typically selling older or discontinued baits.

Funny I thought $35 was expensive for an OG coike, but they are easily selling 17mm for 100+ and 200+ for fullcasts.

I am happy with my cheap urchins now, but even those temu resellers are trying to get near hags/hideup pricing on their $2 urchins that have their arms all bent to heck.

Well the hot unfishable weather brought out the Bait Monkey. This is from three orders. I picked up another KastKing reel, the Icon. I'm going to use it for frogs. I got lucky and found it at Sportsmans Warehouse on clearance for $65. I thought why not. I also ordered some stuff from JLS including some braid from Evergreen that claims its for frogs and flipping. It looks like 832.
