I have been catching more other species since coming back home and getting back on my kayak. In my neighborhood lake I caught 2 pickerel this week, and I’ve only fished for around two and a half hours. Previously I’ve only ever caught 1 or 2 fishing there for over a year.

  • Got out for a short trip today. 7:30 - 11:30.  It was a balmy 31 degrees, with a cool refreshing breeze blowing 10-15 out of the north. The ol rock pile produced again, giving up a 40" and a 31". Gott

Great two days of fishing. Yesterday we got my 85 year old Dad on Brother's pontoon. He had a great time catching crappie and bluegill.

Today I got out to the home lake and found crappie. This one was 14.5", 1lb-4oz. SLAB!!

And the trolling motor appears to be fixed.

It had been glitching in cold weather...would lose spot-lock, set power back to zero, and display the "motor not found" for just a few seconds, then would work okay. This spring it was glitching every time I was out on the water.

I re-paired the remote, re calibrated the GPA puck, checked batteries, connections, fuses...all tested out okay. Called Humminbird and they recommended taking in to my authorized repair center. After calling and discovering it would probably sit in line for 2+ weeks before he could even have a look...I decided to dig deeper.

Pulled housing off and unplugged the power cables from the control board. They seemed to be snug when I took them off...but I cleaned them up and applied a little dialectic grease just to be safe. That seemed to do the trick!

No glitches last two times on the water! Hopefully the problem is solved.

A few tuna landed a couple days ago. I hope to get some time to go bass fishing in a couple weeks, but for now I have to settle for filling the freezer.

@king fisher Nice haul! I've never had the opportunity to eat fresh caught tuna, but I imagine it is fantastic.

You poor fella. Must be rough to have to "settle" for that haul. I feel for ya. 😂 Congrats on a great haul brother. Looks like a ton of fun.

Maycation has been kinda slow numbers wise, thanks to some crazy weather, but the quality has been there when I can get 'em to go.

@T-Billy: Tim, do you happen to know through the Ohio Musky Grapevine if any other Ohioan is surpassing your catch this year?

@Fried Lemons: Your multi-species angling is so very impressive.

Oh yeah. Some by a lot.

Hey @T-Billy you should consider a muskie tournament sometime. The simple fact that you can do this for days on end without sleep, food, or a change of clothes is half the battle.

I'm a member of the Ohio Husky Musky Cub and they hold several tournaments a year, but I have no interest in tournament fishing. Bass tournaments never interested me either. I just enjoy getting out there and trying to outsmart fish that have a bigger brain than me. 😁

Fishing really is a cathartic, spiritual thing for me. Tournament fishing runs contrary to the reason I'm out there in the first place. I have no interest in FFS for a similar reason. It takes too much of the mystery out of it.

Finally had a good day today after a brutal week. Lots of sunshine and light winds have had 'em in a funk.

I also caught a 39" but didn't take a pic. She was hooked deep and it took some time to get her unbuttoned. Didn't get gills or gullet and she swam off fine but I didn't want to stress her anymore.

Tomorrow's the last day of vacation. Hopefully they're still chewing.

Definitely blessed with good water when I fish my closest lake for bass and a bycatch is a 1lb 10oz crappie.

Well... Maycation has officially come to an end. Back to reality tomorrow. I finished strong though, picking up four today. 44 - 41.5 - 40 and 38.

Nice thick 44"

This scrawny 40 is an absolute glutton for punishment. Two of my friends and I caught it 5 times last year when it was 39. Caught all six times in May/June within a 1/4 mile area.

Didn't take a pic of the 38".

@T-Billy

Your making the fish of 10,000 casts look like child's play......nice.

One day @T-Billy will be the man that caught 10,000 muskies.

Maybe, if I remain healthy enough to fish until I'm 150 years old. 😂
