  • Got out for a short trip today. 7:30 - 11:30.  It was a balmy 31 degrees, with a cool refreshing breeze blowing 10-15 out of the north. The ol rock pile produced again, giving up a 40" and a 31". Gott

@TnRiver46 my guess is a catfish attractant. Does the water get high enough for that to be submerged? It looks like behind that barrel would be a good place for catfish to hang out.

My first thought was it was made by a catfish noodler. Pretty good idea if that's the case. If it works that is. Instead of hunting hollow logs and holes in the bank, they made their own.

Finally got a real hog tonight.

My first Cow tuna( yellowfin over 200 lbs. ) of 2026. The trip started slow. We found the tuna right away. The tuna were busting all over the surface, but we couldn't get them to bite our live bait or lures. We spent all night the first night trying to get squid for bait. Dolphins would show up as soon as we turned on the lights, chasing the squid away. The next day we gave up on the tuna, and trolled for marlin and Landed one nice striped marlin. That night we were up all night trying to catch squid again. We managed to catch a few squid, and went after the tuna on the last day. We landed a small 50 pound tuna, on the first squid suspended under a helium balloon, and landed this cow a few minuets later on a squid under a kite.

We spent the remainder of the day driving home, and watching football. ( Go Seahawks).

I have never experienced such difficulty catching squid at night, and have never seen a time when squid were such an important bait. I guess that's fishing.

Yesterday afternoon we had bright sunshine and it got up to 25-26 degrees. We still have 5 inches of snow laying around but I was bored out of my mind so I had to go fishing. Went to where I knew I could catch something with nightcrawlers . Got 8-9 panfish, mostly yellow perch the size of rapalas, a couple bluegill and one shellcracker

We went fishing south of PV this past weekend. First day was a skunk. I spent that night trying to catch squid for bait and got skunked again. The next morning I decided to fish for roosterfish on along the beach, to get rid of the skunk. We landed 35 roosterfish and a bunch of Jacks in the morning all released. Left at noon for the tuna grounds. Landed two nice blue marlin trolling lures on the way out, with the biggest around 400 lbs both successful releases. Spent the night trying to get squid for another skunk. Fished a bank for tuna the next day with no success. We didn't fill the freezer, but had some great catch and release fishing.

I think they were white bass crappie and drum , probably some sauger and walleye

But mostly white Bass because I have hundreds of pictures just like that from this time of year and I’m always catching tons and tons of white bass

Thanks for sharing.

It's going to be a huge learning curve whenever I get a boat.

THE HIGHLIGHT OF MY ENTIRE FISHING CAREER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A boat full of rowers got stuck on a mud flat. I don’t know if I’ve ever been so excited to see something!!!!! The guy on the megaphone in the boat that runs you over said “nobody saw what happened” as they all had to get out in the ankle deep water and move their boat. I shouted from my kayak with the gusto of a million trumpets “I saw what happened!!!! I saw it!!!!” Honestly, I’m still giddy. I have a picture of an abandoned bass boat on the same mud flat 10 years ago. Y’all know me, I’m a nice guy. But there is nothing more annoying on the water than rowers. They come within 10 feet of your boat every single time they pass, which is like a dozen in a short trip after work. Several times I could reach out and smack them with my paddle. And then there is the noise. My goodness the noise. They absolutely refuse to shut up. The sound of a mosquito in your ear is heavenly compared to a bunch of screaming giggling rowers that won’t get the heck away from someone trying to fish. I’ve offered them $20 the get the heck away from me several times. To see their dumb rear ends stuck in the mud made my year. Here is a pic of them freeing the boat, kind of hard to see.

Now back to the fish……..

Hit the river after work from 4:30-6:30. Caught crappie yellow bass and bluegill. Saw several herons standing in rows, pretty cool formations. I was also treated to a wonderful sunset

Row row row your boat gently down the stream, stick that sucker in the mud and listen to Russ scream. 😂

That row of herons is pretty cool. I've never seen them do that. Usually they screech up a storm and fight over fishing spots. You know, kinda like us fisherman. 😂
