Walked in one of my local shops yesterday - huge place, well stocked, looking for a casting rod for my 8 yo kiddo - I want to keep it somewhat short for him - Berkley Cherrywood or Daiwa Lagunas @ 6' in a Medium & a MH will likely get the nod.  I also needed a rod sock to stealth a newer setup in the storage rack.  

 

then I looked at the reel display......Oh, you have the new Tatula Elites....those look nice.  I didn't ask, but the guy handed me the casting model.  I sat there chatting while steadily playing with this thing.  About a minute into it, I realized just how smooth that reel was.  Daiwa CT-R is the most I've sprung for a reel - but this one might have just changed my mind.  I walked out empty-handed, but I'm really hoping I've been good this year.

Usually I get the green pumpkin ones but that color really stood out to me.

Very intrigued by this. One review says they received it and its a B-stock (blemished, sold at a discount at the factory). If thats the case I'd wonder how they got it, and Id assume St Croix would not be happy about it. I'd call and verify its new with full warranty before ordering.

I bought a Legend Glass from them last week. It showed up yesterday and was brand new with tags in a sealed St Croix plastic bag. I dont see any blemishes at all. And it was shipped in a tube.

During sales I have a habit of ordering in 2 waves: The stuff I have to have right now, then some things I want. I waffle on the "want" stuff until the last minute before pressing the button.  I've been waiting for this sale to grab the Quantum Monster 301 in particular. My brother is out of his mind buying swimbaits and has four rigs to do so, but they simply fill a niche for me. He's got a Tranx 300 which is very sweet, a Lew's Super Duty 300 which is very nice, and 2 Quantum 300s. He disliked his Lexa, so away it went. I've thrown baits with all of them and concluded that the Quantum is just fine. It's held up well and you can really chuck a bait and not be concerned. My brother just added the second one a few weeks ago and it wasn't necessarily out of being thrifty. It's a nice reel that gets the job done, has stood up well to big baits all season, and for 80$ on sale I think it's a steal. Well worth a look if you'd like to dabble but don't want to fork out bigger bucks. It's all aluminum construction too: frame and sideplates. I'm putting it on the Dobyns FR795SB I got from Dix last night for 97 bucks. Pretty sweet deal in total. My poor Curado K can rest easy now.
